Just wondering

Kimenem

I looked at past posts on Rogaine and was just wondering if anyone here uses or has used it. It seems like I heard once you start, you have to continue. I think mine has thinned overall but is more noticeable to me in the back, like where a man's hair thins. Rogaine just seems like such a harsh chemical. Of course I have to wonder about researchers one day saying that prolonged use increases the risk of brain cancer or something. How does it not "soak in?" I'm only 36 and think it may be a stress related thing or maybe I still have active Lyme? However, how in the world would I still be able to exercise like I do an feel fine?? Anyway, I'm thinking maybe I should start it to get back a little in that area before it becomes "see through" and maybe for preventative reasons.

I use Rogaine and my hairstylist insists that my hair is not thin -- though I know better. I also take Biotin, but here is a new discovery for me.

My trainer observed my difficulty in dropping weight despite great workouts and clean diet. Yes, I am 45, so there is that peri thing going on. But she had me start taking my temp which runs very low -- indicating a slower metabolism. She suggested that I take ionic minerals, which I started about a month ago.

The pounds have indeed begun dropping, and as a huge added benefit I am noticing that my hair is not coming out in or after shower nearly as much as before -- it's a drastic difference. Could it be the minerals -- no idea. But I'll keep it up (though I won't drop the Rogaine quite yet.) HTH

P.S. For anyone who considers taking those ionic minerals (they are relatively inexpensive and you only need 1 teaspoon a day - got mine at Whole Foods) I DOUBLE DOG DARE YOU TO EVEN TRY TO TAKE 'EM STRAIGHT - NO CHASER. JUST TRY! (Insert Cathe's evil witch laugh here!)

L Sass, what are ionic minerals? I have low body temp, low blood pressure, low everything. Thanks!

I got a small bottle at WF for about $6 - a month ago - just to see if there was any truth to my trainer's suspicions. I am becoming pretty convinced. Went back this week and picked up the larger bottle which ran me about $24 -- that'll last about 2 mos.

But remember my warning -- YUCKYUCKYUCK. And you can't even put it into anything to try to mask the taste - that'll ruin whatever you mix it with. (I dumped out a whole protein shake) You gotta' just down 'em and then have a chaser really handy. HA

How do you do the temp thing? Is it an average? My main problem with weight loss is that I really don't watch my diet. When I do, I think I lose fairly normally.

How do you use the Rogaine? Once you stop, won't all the new hair fall out? Can you use it with your other products?

Hmmmm! I'm interested I have a low body temp and in spite of working out and tracking what I eat ( trying to stay at 1400 to 1500 cals a day) with the occasional splurge bot not that many I still have put on at least 15 pounds and nothing takes it off! I don't have whole foods where I live so where else should I look and are they all labeled as Ionic minerals? I'm 41 so could this be the solution to peri-pudge?!

Rogaine only works for as long as you use it, and then the jury is out if it even really does. I have a friend who wanted to grow out her already thick hair, and she used Nioxin..she swore by it, so I started using it. It stripped the color outta my hair and left it dull and lifeless.

I have baby fine hair so am constantly looking for things to help "boost" it! I wore extensions forever..they do damage the hair but I loved the fuller look they gave me.
I am going to try the ionic minerals now!

I didn't mean to hijack Kinenem's thread - I am sorry. I do find that the Rogaine works - I think. At the rate my hair was coming out I should have been bald my now -- and my stylist says the same thing. So I will keep using it - and yes I do attribute much of the thinning the perimenopause. But I think the biotin helps too.

No, I don't know at all if the ionic minerals are really the cause of the significantly slower thinning, but the weight is def dropping and my body temp is higher. My trainer had me take my temp everyday for 2 weeks and the highest it was was 97.1, and most of the time it fluctuated between the mid-95's to mid 96's. She told me that you really want to be at that 98.6 mark or as close as possible. It took a solid 2 weeks for me to see an increase in the temp, and it's still not at the 98.6 mark, but coming close. Now I generally run in the low to mid 97's - so it is going up and the pounds are coming down. I told Jasmine - here is the link to the minerals I take.

But I cannot warn you enough about the tase. If you get 'em, be ready.

So do you know anything about the safety of this stuff? For instance, does it interact with anything else? Does it replace a multi or hair, skin, nail supplement? Does it aggravate other things, like heart palps? Don't worry about highjacking, which you didn't do anyway. This is all great info!

I added it in to my supplements. Cannot replace a multi vitamin, because there is a diff between vitamins and minerals. I take a multi vitamin 2x daily, along with my citrical, biotin, glucosamine, and also the minerals. I take these 1/2 tsp in the a.m. and 1/2 tsp in the p.m. My trainer says she only takes them once a day - and gets the whole tsp out of the way at once. HTH.

So the link you posted is the one you take? Is there a reason you're taking this one as opposed to some of other other more general versions?

Yes, that is the one I take -- purely on the advice of my trainer. I have seen such amazing results AND LEARNED SO MUCH from her in the few short months that I've been working with her that I trust her judgment immensely. Recognizing of course that each of our bodies will respond differently to different things, I think it is always important to tap into your body and monitor how it responds. But no - no other reason than her recommendation.

Hmmmm....so now what to do.....

Thanks for all the info. Hopefully I'll get enough hair back to keep it from becoming see through.
