just hurt my knee during MIS warmup...

I stepped up to do knee repeaters and felt a sharp pain in the front of my left knee, so I stopped the workout to walk it off but no such luck. I can walk fine w/out pain but as soon as I put my foot up on the step it kills, I can't put any pressure on it. I tried to get a doctors appt but there are none available today so I'll have to wait out the weekend. How could something so simple cause a knee injury? It's not like I've had knee pain previous to this. I was just getting back into working out 6 days a week as opposed to 3 days a week - maybe that's why? I also did interval running yesterday, so maybe today should've been a rest day...How frustrating!!

Has anyone else had this happen? The pain is right below my knee cap but close to the surface (if that makes sense). Inferior/superficial in other words.

OUCH!! Poor YOU!! The best treatment right now while you are acute is RICE, Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation. Have you iced it? I would suggest getting an ice pack (or a bag of frozen peas, corn...) on it with a towel between you and your skin and let it be for 10 or 15 minutes, NO MORE THAN 20, or you risk tissue damage. You will probably feel cold, then burning, then achey, then numb, when it gets to numb, remove it. Leave it off for about 20 minutes and then ice it again. Elevate your leg when ever possible over the next 48 hours. This will slow down the inflammatory response and reduce swelling. Try to stay within your pain free range of motion until you get to the doctor. HTH.

Take Care

Laurie gave you great advice here! Do this until Monday as often as you can and make sure to elevate, even during sleep. You may consider taking an anti-inflammatory over the counter med like alleve.

Can you try to get a chiropractor or physical therapist today? If not, perhaps you can get one on the phone for suggestions. They may tell you not to do certain things to prevent further injury, to do certain things, etc., even without seeing you.

Good luck and take care.

So sorry about your injury. Laurie has given you some good advice "RICE". If you are not allergic it wouldn't hurt to take an anti-inflammatory such as ibuprofen(motrin) or aleve(naproxen). Just take it easy and hope you are better soon!!

I have had a few minor injuries lately. I, too, have stepped up my routine from a temporary slacking (not lazy, just intruded upon by life).

Anyway I have learned (I hope) to really be aware and slowly ramp up when this happens. Easier said than done though.

My knee is feeling much better today - I've been resting it but it's been hard resisting the urge to workout. I did go for a long walk yesterday and my knee wasn't sore afterwards so I'm going to do PUB today. I don't think I'll attempt any high impact or step until it feels totally healed.

Thanks for all the good advice and concern!

Glad to hear it! I would baby it a bit for another week and when you do work it, stretch it extra just to be safe. Icing after your first couple of leg workouts wouldn't hurt either :)
