Do any of you ladies like to paint ? I have a hobby of painting country scenes on hand saws, & round saws, I also like to make teddy bears. Anyone else a painter ? ...... Rhonda :7

Hi! LOVE TO PAINT! Unfortunately, I haven't done it much in the last couple of years :( so my skills are very rusty. BUT when I move to San Diego, I will be taking art classes and language classes while I gain residency. I'm very excited to make art a bigger part of my life again. Would love you to post some pictures of your artwork :D

Sara

Hi Sara,
As soon as I can take some pictures of some of them and get them developed I will :7 ... so far I have done them for family christmas presents, and for family members, I did sell one of them. My hubby likes to hang them on our walls. .... Some of the round saws are very big..... Rhonda :7

That's fantastic. My projects have mostly been for friends and family also, so all of my best pieces are gone. I mostly love the satisfaction I get out of doing a picture that I know means something to one of them. I have done a few commission portraits, but honestly, I don't like doing that. I prefer doing something that comes a little more from my heart... or at least something I want to do. It's wonderful to meet a fellow artist AND exercise addict... hehehe

Have you taken many art classes, or are you self-taught?

Sara

The only art classes I ever had were in high school and grade school, pretty much self-taught, just trial and error :7 ..... Rhonda :7

Not only do you and I live near one another, but we both make teddy bears! Well, I used to, anyway. I haven't made one for years. I got in a teddy bear making frenzy once and made 125 in a year. I like to make and collect odd little teddy bears. I made a couple wearing minature versions of my friends' wedding dresses, a giant six foot mouse that we raffled off for the humane society, and a teddy bear chair with a lap to sit in for my step-daughter's bedroom (among way too many others). My favorites are the ones made from those old mouton coats. What kind do you make?

I make jointed Teddy Bears, and I have made some really cute long white haired jointed rabbits, I will try to find the pictures of some of them, 2 of the bears I made have clothes on, those clothes take almost as long as the bears to make. I really enjoy bear making too, people seemed a bit surprised when I told them how much I would sell them for, I think they don't realize what goes into making one .... Rhonda :7

mine are made out of synthetic fur, and not mohair, I never could afford to buy the mohair.

Yes, jointed bears. Me, too! I'd love to see your pictures! Especially the rabbits. I put clothes on some of mine, too. Others I don't. It does take a long time, but it's fun. I don't like to sew anything that requires me to use a pattern, but if I can just go off on my own and design my own patterns, it's more creative and I have a great time. I've sold a couple, and, like you, they're definitely pricey. I've got 30 or 40 hours in some of those wedding dresses, for example, (although those were gifts of love and I never sold one).

I don't use the mohair, either. Talk about expensive! I do buy old coats at the Salvation Army, though, and clean them up and make bears out of them. I like the ones made of unusual materials the best. Do you sew yours by hand or on a machine, or both?

I sew the big ones on a machine and the smalll ones by hand. I went to Amazon back about 2 yrs ago and bought about 4 Teddy Bear making books. Its really fun to me...... before that I never thought about how Teddies wear made ...... I will look for the pictures today, if I can't find them I will take some more ....... Rhonda :7

You would probably like the teddy bear purses I made ...I also like to make quilts ..... Rhonda:7

I paint a little, but I mainly focus on drawing. Unfortunately I have not had a chance to do any of these things lately.

I would love to see photos of some of the things you have done.

That is the MOST adorable bunny I've ever seen! I love him best! And your painted saw is incredible! I've always envied people who can paint. I've tried, but I'm not very good.

Shari

thanks Shari ... glad you liked them, yeah the rabbits I sold a few of them, they were neat to make. ..... Rhonda :7 :7

I used to paint when I was much younger but now my main creative hobby is sewing and quilting. I make about 1 (large) quilt a year, mainly through the winter months. In the summer, I play golf. I am also very fond of making costumes and I've done several for the church.

Hi Rhonda my husband is an artist. He does watercolor. He also likes to make things out of wood like ducks. He did go to Art School for 3 years. He is not in the Art industry but does a few paintings a year and sells them. Edited to say I saw the painting and it is beautiful!

Hi Barbara,
Thanks, I love to paint along with sewing, as you can see, but I also make quilt tops ( photo quilt tops) and clothes for me. ... glad to hear I am in good company ..... Rhonda :7

Hi Juli,
I have made 4 quilt tops, one still needs to be quilted, the other 3 are photo quilts. They are so nice. I like to make some of my clothes....... Rhonda :7 :7

Yes but I haven't painted for a few years because of lack of space. I still draw and love to go out into the garden and lie in the grass while I draw. Some of my best work gets done in the month of August. I bought a graphics tablet for my computer over a year ago so I could start using Painter but haven't had the time to use it properly yet. I love Painter though - to me it is the closest thing to real paint and drawing on a computer there is. I like to create using Painter and then I use Photoshop to add in some effects.
Rhonda, I had a look at the pictures you posted at picturetrail and I think they are wonderful. I live teddy bears but I am terrible at sewing. Everyone of the fluffies, you've pictured there look absolutely huggable and adorable. I also love your painting.
ATB,
- Lisa :)
