~*~*JUNE 09 CHECK IN~*~* For TUES, 6/30~*~*~

Cathlete
It's crazy that I sleep in and am starting our check in off!
Kathy has company this week, right?
Miss ya!!

So today is a total body weight work day, I think I may do Muscle Max minus the abs, since I did those yesterday...

Beth: I did have white tea last night. Oh! With Mint! I love mint tea, I'll have to look for it. I do find it odd people are raving about Power Half Hour. What people are these? LOL!.. I think I may do a heavy rotation after this one too. Maybe 4DS and S&H. I think I have an old rotation with those combined. ,,... I can see losing weight on a trip to Paris and London. I think I'd be so into the sites and not even care about eating> Plus the cuisine being so different than what I was used to. That must have been an awesome trip though! When are you guys going away this summer?

This summer schedule is so weird for me. Though I did get up before 7am today. Just seems so lazy! LOL!

Yes, Kathy's sisters must still be visiting! It is funny what sleepy-heads we are. I felt like I really slept in today, too!

I want to do MM again someday soon -- haven't done it in sooooo long! I was thinking of only doing a week of heavy, not a month! :) I'm also wondering about trying to do STS as a total body workout -- did you ever read that thread?

I did a strange workout this morning. I had that Patricia Moreno kickbox core train workout from netflix, but from previewing a little, I knew it wouldn't be very intense cardio, so I decided to add in some kbell swings. So, that's what I did, except after all the build up of her form tips (which were very good, I admit), I just couldn't keep up with her combos! I'm so inept! So, I did Lauren Brook's fat blast (kbell). I guess I got a decent workout, but I don't feel very worked.

Today we have piano lessons (haven't been since the end of school!) and swim lessons, oh, with a trip to the library in between. The kids skated until 9:00 last night!!

Happy Tuesday!

-Beth

Muscle Max....DONE!

I have a feeling I'm going to be sore tomorrow... I haven't done weight work in over a week! But I did go with most of the weights Cathe did, so I don't think I lost a ton of strength gains.....

Beth: Your workout sounds discombobbled today! .. I thought about STS as a total body workout, but how the heck do you make it only 1 hour? Does the thread you read tell you how? hey..is there a total body weight work premix on 4DS?... Tomorrow for me is Pilates. I have to find a good one...

I'm thinking of bringing the boys strawberry picking after lunch. I want to do the library this week too, but I think it's supposed to rain tomorrow, so maybe it would be a better day for it...

Chris, the white tea with mint is by Stash, by the way. I'm drinking some now. It tastes like mint tea. :)

STS as total body: these are some notes I cut and pasted from the thread -- I have no idea who to credit:

Today I decided to try STS as a full body workout. I did M1W4 and i did the first 1/3 of each workout which is roughly 9 exercises from each video (about 15 minutes in length) It took me about 50-55 minutes to complete and i absolutely loved it. Because i knew i had only so many exercises per body part i was able to really push myself. I then did 30 minutes of cardio at the end. On wednesday i will do the second 1/3 and on friday the last 1/3 of each video. The workout flew
by and i loved it. I'm a full body workout lover so this was perfect.

me again: Someone else thought meso 2 could probably be done this way, too. I am pretty sure 4DS has a total body premix, but I think it's really long -- maybe 90 minutes. Hang on.... oh, poop, the times aren't listed, but yes, the premix exists. My recollection is that it maybe in the 70-90 minute range.

My workout was kind of discombobled, but it didn't bother me like it sometimes does. I don't know why I was so mellow about it! :)

Off to look at your vacation pics!

-Beth

I'm waiting for Zach to take a shower so i can change his pump site, and THEN go strawberry picking.... (and you know how teenagers take forever!!).

I wonder if I can put some Peppermint Extract in my white tea to make it minty?

Oh, that STS total body is interesting... I'll have to keep it in mind. Let me know if you do it!

I feel like I'm stuck in the mud, I hear the Guitar Hero going again...

::yawn::

Sorry for the no post yesterday. Joe and I had a huge drama. He was totally in the wrong, he knew it, and he took my yelling but I'm at my wits end with him. We've been steadily arguing more since we bought the house mostly because I'm just overwhelmed with everything that needs to be done and my lab work has suffered because he puts UNNECESSARY stuff on my plates while he futzes on the computer. ::sigh:: I don't really know what to do. He's less like a husband and more like a child as of late and I'm just totally exasperated. I'm used to him going through lazy bouts but nothing this inconsiderate for so long. Oh well...

Chris -- I'll go look at your pictures soon! Strawberry picking sounds fun! Oh btw, I read the Art of Racing in the Rain on Friday last week. *I* bawled in the the penultimate chapter but I think that's because of my own personal experiences. Thanks for recommending it!

Beth -- Sounds like everyone is having fun in the arena. Good for you for not getting annoyed with the workout. I meant to tell you about the allowance thing...neither Joe or I got allowances. My parents could and chose not too, his mother could not. Both of us did work when we got old enough. I don't have kids so I have no idea what we're going to do but we both sort of feel this: in the home you're in the family and everyone should contribute (sheesh, Joe should remember that more) without financial compensation but if you make $$ from a job outside the home, you should get to keep a portion or all of it (all of the money we made never went into our fingers which we both thought didn't teach us anything about the value of work). Just my thoughts but I obviously don't have any real experience with it. It's weird...since my family is pretty well off in India, my cousins don't understand doing chores and were disgusted at the idea of me cleaning my own toilets since every house has at least one cleaning lady that does stuff every day. I sort of swore to myself my kids would never be like that so I dunno...I guess I want them to take their chores seriously.

Oh, no workout just yet but cardio today. Nothing invovling my chest fly's it seems because of my back fatigue. I think I'm going to do KCM stuff though HIS is calling me...

Hi ladies!! Workout today was itread 13 - 45 minutes. Tough one!

Thanks for the feedback on allowances. I think everyone should be responsible for chores, but I'm leaning towards not tying the allowance to the chores. They should do the chores, as Hottie said, 'cause they're part of the family and everyone helps out. DH doesn't agree about that. Beth, the recommendation I read was $1 per year of age per week. Yikes! I know, that would be like $160 per month for us. We can't do that. I think it's good that they have money to learn how to budget and to learn to save for stuff they want. Jameson yesterday went through all his books. He's got them all piled up on his bed - the keep and the sell pile. Well, of course he left them on the bed and had to sleep on the floor cause he didn't put them back on his shelf and put the sell ones in the box I gave him. I think I mentioned this, but we're going to have a kids' garage sale and let them sell their stuff. I'm hoping the lure of cash will entice Ian to sell a good portion of his 200+ stuffed animals. ;)

Hottie, I know, men can be so exasperating sometimes!!! Make you want to throttle them! DH and I go through ups and downs. He works nights, so thinks he's got it the hardest. I also work, but come home and take care of everything, so my day doesn't end till 10:00 at the earliest. On weekends, I do all the kid-related maintenance type stuff, cleaning, cooking, nagging to do what they're supposed to, interference so they don't kill each other, etc., etc. He can sit on the computer or stare at the TV totally oblivious to all that is going on around him. Drives me insane, so I get it, unfortunately!!

Oh, speaking of kids and throttling, I had a lovely experience with Ian and Colin in Target yesterday. NOT! Ian needed new swimming trunks, and Colin wanted to come with to pick out stuff he wants for his birthday. So, we're walking along the aisle and Ian keeps picking on Colin just to be annoying. Grabs him by the neck, Colin kicks Ian right on the shin that just healed from that horrible scrape he got a few weeks ago. Blood starts pouring down his leg. Ugh!! Colin is crying cause I'm not yelling at Ian for annoying Colin and Ian's denying any involvement in the whole thing except getting kicked for "no reason". I drag them over to the bandaid aisle and pick up a box and give Ian a bandaid to put on his leg. He insists we're stealing the bandaid and doesn't want to use it. I told him it was fine I was buying the box - we could use one out of it first. I guess I at least am raising them with some ethics! ;) He finally puts the thing on. They still continue to bicker and fight. I left them in the toy aisle and got some other things I needed. Ian knew enough not to ask for the slushee I had promised him on the way out before things went haywire!

Chris, yum, strawberry picking!! Making anything good with your pickings? I know how hard it is to get kids moving!

Beth, glad you handled your discombulated workout so well! ;) That STS full body sounds good, but a bit too much thinking early in the morning for me! I may at some point try Cathe's rotation with different STS workouts mixed in with other workouts. Was it June's? Seems like everyday I'm posting a different rotation I want to do!

Gotta run...

I tried adding the peppermint extract to my white tea. bad idea. It's too hard to get just a drop, and a whole crapload went in, it was disgusting! LOL!!

I also screwed up my good eating today. I let the boys bickering and screaming get to me, and I ate some of the laying around chocolate from Hershey. BUT.. I did "recover" and ate a light supper, and if I stick to my snack tonight (Greek Yogurt w/freshly picked strawberries!), I'll be okay on calories. :)

Hottie: I'm sorry you and Joe are bickering. It sucks to be super stressed and then have that on top of it. I wish I could kick his ass for you!... One thing about Greg, he will do anything I ask and not bitch. The problem is, I usually expect him to KNOW what to do, and then get pissed because he doesn't automatically know. .... I think there was ONE spot I got teary eyed with "The Art of Racing in the Rain". But it ended so upbeat and happy, didn't you think? I bet it made you see Evee a bit different too!..... I totally see your point at not getting paid allowance for pitching in to help. I thought that in the beginning too. there are certain things they are expected to do (just to help, like make their beds, pick up their toys), but then there were extra things we thought of they could earn some money to spend as they wished. ... I hope you got a good for you cardio in today! hope the fatigue gets better quickly!!

Joanne: My boys have also been expressing interest in selling some of their books! Twice, they made a PILE of books , but then just left it. Not so happy about that. OMG on your Target experience. My boys would SO do something like that. Totally. You sounded like you handled it well! That is the kind of thing that makes me seek out chocolate for solace!!!!..... We finally got out to pick strawberries. I made some strawberry shortcake stuff with it and bought some Angel Food cake. The kids will have it, I'll just put the strawberry stuff in my yogurt tonight, because I've been a bad bad girl today! ... I also cut up a few and put them in a romaine salad tonight, and used Fat Free Cranberry Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing. VERY good!

I was so tired today... picking strawberries killed me, every time i bent over and then stood up, i felt like I was going to pass out. Ick.... But I'm feeling a little more alive right now..

Oh, my Sunday daytime sitter called earlier, and told me she's 6 weeks pregnant. She's 24. She's been dating a guy for 2 months (you do the math). Nice. She's happy about it too. It makes me very sad for her. What are the odds this will work out for her? She said she was a little afraid to tell me, she was afraid how I'd react. I mean, it's her life, what could I do? Fire her? ...

that's all that's happening here!...

Hey -- anyone still around?! (do you ever think we just keep a thread going for a week so we don't lose any messages? But some weeks we gab and gab!). We are back home..... piano lessons were rescheduled at last moment because our piano teacher (who also teaches violin) had two violins stolen and one potentially recovered so she was going to have to drive to the city and ID it. I feel so bad for her! Violins stolen!! So, we went to the library, got the oil changed in Larry's car for him, did other errands, went to swim lessons. Joanne, that Target scene could have happened right here, too -- and Chris, I would have been right there with you on the chocolate afterward!!!

Hottie, sorry to hear about the stress and all. I don't know what to tell you to try to get him motivated and helping you. I am so lucky in that Larry is always busy doing something -- it's not always something I want him to do, but he is no slacker! I feel like I have to get off my butt sometimes so he doesn't think I'm the slacker. We are grumpy with each other right now because he wants to buy a motorcycle (I say it's his mid-life crisis purchase, but he's in denial), and I so think he does not need another hobby. He's been telling me for years that I cannot buy furniture, not even bookshelves, because he wants to build them. But he never get around to it! I told him if he buys a motorcycle I am going to start buying furniture. (we still have books unpacked 3-1/2 years after the move because we need bookshelves!).

I so want to read that dog book!!!

Chris, that babysitter story is familiar -- same thing happened to my friend's young babysitter -- not sure how long they'd known each other. This was a few years ago and I cannot remember how it worked out.

Joanne, good work on the itread. Did I tell you guys? All my thinking about that 5k and it looks like we may end up going camping with friends that weekend!!!

Ok, I'd better sign off....

-Beth
