Johnny Depp...

Forgive me if you all discussed this while I was without my PC, but who has seen Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? We went last Tuesday and I enjoyed it very much! Johnny Depp was a wonderful Willie Wonka. And I really enjoyed the Oompa Loompas.

We rented Finding Neverland this weekend and I was very impressed, once again, with Johnny Depp's talent. It was a beautiful story and he was fantastic in it. I know some people have an issue with him because he left the U.S. with bad feelings about his home country, but I have no problem with him doing that.

If you haven't seen Neverland, I highly recommend it!

Donna I have seen Charlie and the Chocolate Factory TWICE! I had two different groups of people ask me to go so I wnet with both :) I love Johnny Depp and I think he is very talented. I own Finding Neverland and once again I really enjoy the movie, Johnny, and the boy who plays in both Neverland and Charlie. Have you ever seen Benny and Joon or What's Eating Gilbert Grape? Also two great movies that Johnny is in!

Terri

I've loved JD since I was a teenybopper watching "21 Jump Street!." happily he has also turned out to be a fantastic actor. I'm seeing CATCF tomorrow as a mattter of fact!

Did anyone else like Chocolat?

Hate to be so negative since he literally caused me heartache on 21 Jumpstreet. But if he's so anti-American, good_F----- riddance. You lost me babe.

Marla

PS: Sorry Ladies, I feel strongly about that.

Marla, I knew I really liked you ... but now even more so.

We are so on the same page. Again, I agree with you.

Marla

I can have different opinions then him on politics but still recognize his talent I think he is a great actor. If I were to stay away from everyone who had different opinions then me I would be a very lonely person. Not trying to start a Flame war here just stating my opinion.

Terri

No kidding, Terri! I appreciate you from all I know, but I still find it difficult to spend my money on those kind of actors.;-)

Marla

Thanks Marla and I respect your opinion as well. I wish I could have gone on the roadtrip as I would love to meet a woman brave enough to skydive:)

Terri

TeeHee! Brave no more as I told you before. but as far as Cathe goes... That is a whole other adventure.

Regardless of nationality, an individual who has the ability to maintain a critical, objective perspective towards his/her home country, who may dare to dissent from the conservative staus quo, earns my respect immediately.

Johnny Depp is an actor of astounding range who always entertains. I think he's just fine and I like his idiosyncrasy. There are enough predictable Pitts and Cruises already, thank you very much.

We should be careful when applying the overused "antipatriotic" charge.
Critical is not unpatriotic: it can even be extremely patriotic in fact.

I just saw finding nerverland last night and thought it was a wonderful touching story! From all I have read about Johnny Depp he does seem to be a bit strange but his acting is always stellar. He has such great range and depth!

FWIW, I agree with you ladies. I did enjoy him in Pirates of the Carribean (didn't know anything more about him then, but that he was odd and had been in several movies and 21 Jump Street). I'm willing to give him credit for his talent. And leave it at that:)

EXACTLY, Clare! That's my feeling completely!!!!

I stand with both Marlas and Terri on the person of Johnny Depp, but having said that, the guy just melts me for some reason! Did you see Chocolat? Oh my! For some reason I can put his "soapbox issues" aside and just enjoy. Tom Cruise I never had a thing for, and HE is one who truly drives me nuts with his personal opinions.

As far as the current movie, and this thread go, I have to say that I cannot wait to see it!! I would have been there opening day because I am a huge fan of the first movie. Sadly, my son is away for three weeks at Boyscout camp and I promised him this would be our date. It is killing me to wait, but I look forward to going out to sushi and a movie with my son, so I am consoled somewhat for now.

Sorry to disagree but I found Johnny Depp's Willy Wonka to be creepy! The rest of the cast was good. I still like Gene Wilder as Wonka. I don't care for JD's politics but I did like him in Pirates.... and Chocolate.

Johnny Depp!!!! Once again I state he was so beautiful once upon a time. Once again, if you knew me, you would know I am far from conservative. Good grief, just look at my Picture Trails. BUT as far as unpatriotic, I will not forget if you screw up & denounce the U.S.

Hence, I make my own money & I can spend it where I like. So JD won't see any of my bucks. Little as it is.

Marla

I love me some JD. I often watch "Crybaby" on mute, just because he looks too good to be bothered with things like dialogue. Heck, I've endured crap such as "From Hell", "Ninth Gate", "Astronaut's Wife", and "Nick Of Time" all because of Johnny's presence. I think he is as talented as he is hot. And that's really saying something. He took a campy character like Edward Scissorhands and made him heartbreakingly sweet and real. He is such a treasure. Plus, he's pretty easy on the eyes.

As for C&TCF - people, he uses his tongue to summon the Oompa-Loopas. Need I say more?
