Jogglers October 2013

Good morning!

Had a quiet day yesterday. I did IMAX 2 and we went to see Bela Fleck and the New York Banjo Summit. I've never cared for bluegrass music, but these guys and one gal were amazing! A few of them were the innovators of banjo music back in the 50s and still playing like 20 year olds! Best of the best and the music was fantastic! It was 3 hours long and the guys all came out to sign autographs after. Stephen would have loved Bela Fleck's autograph, but it was already after 11 and we had an hour and a half drive, so we didn't stay.

Doing well with the workouts again and my food is getting better. Trying to stay off the scale though. I don't want to discourage myself! :p

Hope you two are having a great weekend! Going to start my laundry (workout clothes are all dirty), start some wine and do my workout later when the clothes are done. Stephen is going sailing solo today. I am having problems with that stupid knot behind my shoulder blade that crops up every now and then and I have been hurting for 4 days now, including today!

I didn't get any tai chi yesterday. I am going for a walk this morning. I have already gotten dressed. I got some images/videos backed up. I have to scrounge some more pictures off my Dad's laptop, little bit tricky to get him off his machine. I think its his best friend really, except for Mom of course. I should put my laundry away. I have to allow myself to rest some to prevent getting sicker. My glands are still swollen, I have a post nasal drip, but I am not feverish right now, so that is an improvement. The gland under the left side of my chin is not quite as bad. They still hurt but the swelling isn't apricot size, now its walnut size. I'm sucking on vitamin C.

Tricia-Well done with your workouts and eating. For me the hardest thing is social situations because I often feel pressured to eat with the work crowd but I just can't eat that kind of food anymore, I'm really too delicate to put oil sludge in my tank, I need high octane jet fuel. Does icing or heat help your knot? I get mine from working on the computer.

Jane- Hi!

Alisha

Happy Monday!

On Friday we took mom to her oncologist appt. in Gainesville. We were to have gone to Jacksonville after that to go shopping and spend the night but mom woke up with a cramp (or something) in her leg so we did not go. I'm not sure what the problem was with her leg but she has been having back pain and trouble getting up in the morning because she has been more active at work lifting books and moving more. My mom is not aware of her body and has a low tolerance for muscle pain. My sister had a stretching book and we took that to her yesterday and showed her some exercises she can do for her back. She is doing better now.

I did not workout on Friday or Saturday . I did take a trip to the new Whole Foods store in Tallahassee on Saturday. Love it!! I've been to Whole Foods before in other cities but it's nice to see one so close. Trader Joe's opened the same week as well as a Dick's Sporting Goods. I will probably shop more at Whole Foods than our regular grocery store because it is so poorly stocked and does not have much organic foods.

Sunday was a 12 mile run. Next Sunday is my half marathon in Myrtle Beach. I only have a 3 day work week. Heading to Myrtle Beach on Thursday. We drive back home next week. Looking forward to this half and the HUGE surfboard medal that we get.

Tonight will be an upper body weight workout.

Alisha ~ I'm glad you are feeling better.

Tricia ~ Good job on the eats. Hope your back is better. I get that every once in a while.

Have a great day!

Hi Ladies,

I took yesterday as a rest day. Today will be a 3-4 mile run and then I'm off until my 1/2 on Sunday. I will be leaving tomorrow so I won't be around probably until next Tuesday.

Have a fun rest of the week!

I am going for a low intensity hike and then I will do some yoga. I have to put away Mt. Saint Laundry first so I can get my bedroom floor back for my yoga mat. I anticipate spending the day doing data entry. I also want to go to Trader's and get some raw honey. I have heard some good things about using it for a facial cleanse and I need a body brush too.

Jane- enjoy your run. Whole Foods is a lot of fun to shop at. I like their breakfast buffet. I hope your Mom is feeling better. If I have a cramp some potassium seems to help, I wonder if she had a cramp or doms.

Tricia- Hi!

Alisha

Hi ladies!

Alisha - Hope you get over all this mess really soon! I know what you mean about needing quality fuel! I know I need it and I do great for a few days, then I get lazy. Of course, I regret it later.

Nothing helps when I get this knot. I just have to get massages from Stephen, take Advil and wait it out until it gets better on its own. :(

The worst thing is there are certain exercises I can't do

Jane - Glad the stretching has been helping your mom! Wish I could be there with you! Besides loving Myrtle Beach, I could use some warm weather! It's not cold, cold here yet, but it's starting to get chilly!

I did not go for a hike. There is a bear in the yard. No, I'm not kidding, a real bear. So, I did 3 miles with Leslie Sansone this morning. Yesterday I used some of the raw honey on my face and it didn't irritate the skin, my skin is peeling from the viral rash last week. My skin looks awful. Afterwards I put a capsule of vit. e directly on the area.

I need to do a healing meditation and to keep my self on track and focused. The virus has addled my brains.

I need to cook my tapioca pudding.

I can't remember, are either one of you on Facebook? I am just myself: Alisha Durbrow over there. I don't post any awful stuff, mostly its videos or links to health stuff, Dr. Who, or cat videos. I just use it to stay in touch with my family that is far away.

Tricia- At least you have a Stephen to help you out! I have a hard time of being perfect for too many days, so I try to cook things at home that are super tasty (even higher in real sugar, just not garbage like HFCS.) so I feel like I have my treats anyway.

Jane- Hi, I know you are getting ready for your race, tapering, and relaxing. Enjoy it!!

I did not exercise yesterday. I did throw another fever in the afternoon, does that count? maybe:p

I am up. I'm all clean and ready for work. I have to get a bunch of inspections done today. I am taking my own chicken sandwich, being good and everything.

Have a great Caturday!

Hi Everyone!

I am back! I had a great time in Myrtle Beach. I did not want to come home. The half marathon was great. My left IT band acted up and I was in some pain during the last couple of miles but it did not keep me from finishing. I did my 3 best time for a half marathon so that was good. Also loved the HUGE 8" surfboard medal that we got and finishing in the ocean side of the island. Afterwards we played 3 rounds of mini golf. I had to keep moving.

Mom did so well on this trip. We played 7 rounds of mini golf and she played 3 1/2 games. She did climb stairs and do well. Her back did not bother her at all and her walking was better. She did get stiff from time to time and was upset that she had trouble getting in bed. Some of the beds are so high. We did go out and get a little stool for her (it was actually for toddlers) so that worked well. I was going to bring one from home but I forgot. Now she has one for when we go on trips.

Tricia ~ Hope your back is better now.

Alisha ~ I am on Facebook too. I will try to find you and send you a PM so you know it's me.

I'm glad you did not go hiking. I would not want to you end up as dinner for a hungry bear. Have a great day. Don't work too hard.

I am not working out today. I'm still sore. We had to return the car this morning so my sister and I are carpooling. We are stopping at Whole Foods to do our shopping on the way home. EXCITED!!

I'm happy to get back to some healthy eating. I ate lots of crap but it fueled my half marathon so I can't complain.

Jane- So glad that you had a good time and that your Mom is doing better.

Congrats on your time!!

I did yoga this morning before breakfast. I plan to do something tomorrow morning too. I'm still dealing with random fevers and nasal congestion/headaches. Eating spicy food and taking ibuprofen seems to help. My appetite is somewhat suppressed. I only last about 5-6 hours at work before I have to rest.

I have to really put my nose to the grind stone and get this project done. Meditation seems to help.

Tricia- Hows it going? Happy Birthday!!!

Alisha

Wow! I've been out a few days! Sorry ladies!

Alisha - I just sent you a friend request on FB! Sorry you're having so many issues right now! Hope it all clears up for you soon! :(

Wow! Hope that bear has moved on! It would be cool to see, but I wouldn't want him/her moving in or making my house a regular stop!

Jane - So glad you had a good race and lots of fun in Myrtle Beach! Hope getting back to work wasn't too hard!

Thank you for the birthday wishes!

We went to Boston for the Head of the Charles on Saturday, then out to dinner at Legal Seafood. Had Boston Cream Pie for dessert! It was amazing! Stephen got me my adjustable dumbbells for my birthday present. I'm so excited! I used them on Sunday for my back and biceps workout and I loved them! Yes, they are a bit bulky, but definitely great!

My knot in my back was getting better, but it's not going away. It has actually flared back up this morning. It's so annoying!

We had our last Chinese class last night. It was fun. Out of six of us, there ended up only being me and Stephen left last night. We are getting together next Tuesday night for dinner at a Chinese restaurant.

My Coursera classes both started on Monday! I have to do week 1 sometime before next Monday. Excited to start these two!

Have a great day! Tonight, I should be doing Strong Legs and Abs. Ugh. I hate legs.

I worked 14 hours today. No exercise. But, I did get to the grocery store so we won't starve.

Glad to see you are back Tricia, looks like you had a good time on your birthday. Your classes sound like fun. I hope they serve dim sum at your Chinese restaurant, thats my favorite thing to eat.

I haven't seen the bear in a while. I wonder where he went. I hope he is ok.

My glands under my chin were a bit ornery today. I bought a nice big bottle of chewable vit. C from Traders.

Jane- Hi!

Alisha

Morning and Happy Friday!

Alisha - That's a long work day! Glad you have food and I, too, hope Mr. Bear is okay and just moving along to find a place to hibernate for the winter!

I really hope your glands settle down! Sheesh!

No workouts for most of this week. It's been kind of whacky. Class on Tuesday, then Wednesday,we were supposed to go pick up Stephen's bike at the shop (regular service), so I waited for him to get home. He called at quarter of 6 to say they didn't stay open after 6, so that blew Wednesday night. Last night I just didn't get it done. Back on it tonight.

I thought once you were officially menopausal that you didn't get a period any more. Well, after 2 months free, I started yesterday. Blech! I hate being female sometimes! I hope this is the last one! That' part of why I didn't work out last night. I didn't feel well and it was leg night.

I need to figure out my eating. I'm just all over the board. As much as I love raw vegan foods, I just am swimming in all the different styles of eating (in my head) and I feel lost. I just don't know what to eat any more and am stunned in place, so to speak. I will work it out eventually.

Hi Jane!

TGIF!!

I missed a couple of days. I'm struggling to get it back together and my allergies (or sinus or a cold) is driving me crazy. I didn't workout on Tuesday because I got home late and on Wednesday I didn't feel good. I ran 3.5 miles last night besides sneezing all day. I actually felt pretty good and the weather was beautiful.

Tonight will be some sort of workout. I'm not sure yet but I'll figure it out.

Alisha ~ Get some rest! 14 hours is a long day!!! I hope the bear is finally gone. We have them in our area every once is a while. I think they are Florida Black Bears that are coming to Georgia. We have lots of deer and foxes as well.

Tricia ~ I thought you were considered in menopause if you don't have a period for a year. I think I'm there because I really don't think I had one for the last year. If I did, it was more like spotting and lasted an hour. My periods really changed for the better once I started working out. I wish I knew about that when I was in my 20's.

The eating thing can be really confusing. My sister was looking at the "Grain Brain" that shows how eating too much carbs (even good ones) can damage your brain (from inflammation) and lead to dementia and Alzheimers. I looked at the diet and it's pretty strict. You can eat healthy fats like butter and cheese but even grains that are gluten free are to be eaten in moderation not to mention low glycemic fruits. What is there left to eat except meat, cheese and veggies and how as an athlete do I power my workouts on spinach? I am working to cut back on good carbs but what's left? Veggies don't always fill me up. I can see why people can be confused. White carbs were bad...now even good carbs are bad but fats are now good?????

I didn't get any exercise this morning, just got up and went straight to work. Probably won't have a lot of exercise for the next week until this project is done. Doner than done. More done than a done living in donesville sleeping in a done bed, going to work at Done-Motors. Just done.

Catch ya later, gotta drive an hour and a half to my other construction sight to check out the childcare center.

Alisha

Hi ladies!

Jane - I have a co-worker who said the same thing about menopause. Maybe what my doctor meant was that my blood level was high enough that I don't have to worry about pregnancy, but I'm not fully in menopause yet? I know she told me I'm okay off the pill now because my level was high enough. I forget the name of the test. Well, we shall see . . .

Are you feeling better?

I just started my Coursera class on The Nordic Diet. I have 3 more videos to watch for the first week. So far, it's pretty standard - lots of fruits and veggies, whole grains and fish, small amounts of nuts, herbs, wild foraged foods, seaweed and even less meat. All should be regional and sustainable for the environment. Meat should be grassfed or wild. We shall see what else they say in the next few weeks.

Haven't started the one on the upper limb. I will start that one tomorrow.

Chinese class is done, but I want to keep working on the language skills, so I need to crank my Rosetta Stone program back up again.

Alisha - Hope you get to finish with this project by the end of next week! Hope you had a safe commute to your job site and back home today!

I did Strong legs and Abs today and man that is one tough workout! I think I did it a bit too soon after my lunch because by the floor work, I was needing to burp badly and almost threw up. Ugh. I hate when I start too soon after eating! Blech!

It is uber-windy today and chilly! I'm off to view one more video on my class and watch some tv. Stephen is napping. He had a terrible time with the pups last night. They were up at least 3 times! I feel badly, but I deserve a couple of nights without getting up, too! I told him if they did that again tonight, I'd get up and help him. He's exhausted. It's been a tough week for him at school. Lots of problems with his program that he uses to crunch his numbers.

Have a great night!

Happy Monday!

This weekend just flew by. I was at mom's all day on Saturday. On Sunday I ran 9 miles and then did stuff around the house. I had a mountain full of laundry that I had to put away. I hate putting away laundry.

Today is going to be an upper body/ab workout.

Thank goodness my afternoon meeting was cancelled. I spent the morning proofreading a 128 page document. Boring!!

Alisha ~ I hope the project is almost done.

Tricia ~ I'm feeling better. I guess it was allergies because I woke on Saturday and the sneezing and sniffling was gone.

Interesting about the Nordic diet. It's so confusing. I'm just trying to eat clean. I'm going to Whole Foods tomorrow to pick up my greens. I'm loving Whole Foods, just wish it was closer.
