Jogglers July 2012

Hello! Still here! Whew!

I will start that next week. Tell me how you like LIC! Is this the low impact series one? I had trouble at the end of that one!

Hoping my friend from DC can get here for a visit this weekend! We have iffy weather and she flys standby so sometimes there aren't enough seats. Fingers crossed!

Finished the first Hunger Games book today! Can't wait to get the second one on Aug. 1st! I am using Amazon's lending library so have to wait until next month to get another book.

Need to harvest more lettuce! It's out of control! Lol! My spinach is dying. I think it's not getting enough sun being hidden by the zucchini leaves which are HUGE! I may try to move them to another spot and see if they survive! I love spinach!

Hi Jane!

I did get some yoga last night. This morning, I went for a hike and I plan to do something else this afternoon because I need more exercise. This morning was more of a stroll than a workout. Tomorrow will be an early AM joggle + yoga.

Tricia- I love LIC it is the LIS series one. It is a lot of fun. I think its my new favorite. Although, that said, I really like the original too. That has great choreography. Spinach is one of my favorite veggies. Your garden sounds super tasty.

Jane- I hope that you are enjoying your week away.

Alisha

Morning Alisha!

A nice stroll does wonders for the spirit and mind. I say it still counts, but I get that you need that calorie burn too!

Going to stay home today, read and maybe get a little housework done, maybe! LOL

Should workout too. I also need to go to the grocery for a few things. I still need a haircut. I hate wasting time waiting at walk-in places, but don't want to pay a lot just for a trim with a real hairdresser.

Have a great day!

Enjoy your holiday, Jane!

Well, yesterday morning I got up early and went for a jog/hike and then I did some yoga. In the afternoon I went for a long hike at the Marin Headlands down by the Golden Gate Bridge. It was a photography meet. Tomorrow will be a jog/hike and something else. I haven't decided what. I will keep you posted

Tricia- Some of those walk in places will make you an appointment even though they don't require one. Often they will save you a spot if you call ahead of time. I haven't had a hair cut in a long time because its expensive. I just style it myself. Its not perfect, but I figure that its ok until I get my next job and can pay for it. In the meantime I just put it up in a bun for interviews and wear a ponytail the rest of the time. Its getting a bit long.

Jane- I hope you are enjoying your holiday!!!

Alisha

Alisha - Yesterday sounds good! How far is it for you to get to the Marin Headlands? I wish I could do my own hair even just decently! LOL! Would never work! My ends are really dry and frizzy (more than usual) and they desperately need a trim! I'll get around to it - someday! It's never one of the most important things on my list.

Today, I start with GS for the week. Some HIIT on Tues & Thurs. Short and sweet! It's a good week to start over since Stephen left this morning for Seattle to check out the boat. He goes for the test sail tomorrow and the haul out and survey is Wednesday. Can't wait for him to get home! I hate when he's gone!

Well, I'll let you know tonight how the workout went!

Have a good Monday!

Hi Jane!

I'm back!!!

I had a great time on my mini-vacation. My sister and I went to Jekyll Island, GA. The weather was beautiful (ok it was HOT) but otherwise it was beautiful. I was going to take some R&R from working out but we ended up biking on both Friday and Saturday. We rode around the whole island, read at the pool and did some shopping. It was totally relaxing.

Can you believe my car is still in the shop? I wanted lemons on my tree not in my garage. In addition to the oil leak there is also a tear in one of the axle...really? How the heck did that happen? I was told that I probably hit something on the road. I don't think so. I lived on a dirt road for 17 years with all sorts of rocks and stuff and never had a tear in my axle. It's supposedly should be fixed today but I'm going out there and am asking them for a new car. Once you have an oil leak, you will always have a leak and they value has gone down already on it because of the repairs. If they don't do that, then I can go for the lemon law. It's already been in for repairs twice and for 8 days total. I think after 3 times, I can file a claim.

Tonight I am doing a leg workout - the squat-fest.

Tricia ~ Congratulations on the boat!!! The is so exciting. Hope everything goes well with the transaction. I love the GS series!

Alisha ~ Your hike yesterday sounded lovely. Hope you have a good workout today.

Yay!!! Jane's back! Glad you had a nice vacation! I haven't been to Jekyll in years! Sorry about your car. I hope they don't fight you on giving you a new one! You shouldn't have all this trouble with a brand new car!

Stephen made it to Seattle. He's exhausted, but he still has to deal with the shipping people to get that set up. He has a test sail tomorrow, then the inspection and haul out on Weds. Home on Thursday. If all that goes well, then we wait for the paperwork from the bank, close and we'll be done other than waiting for the boat to get here. The marina here will launch and put it back together for us. Not in that order, though! LOL! Hopefully, we'll have a chance to sail before the season goes out! If not, we wait until next year.

I've bee such a wreck ever since we started this process! My stomach has been a mess, my digestion has been terrible! My meditation helps a little, but I won't relax until it's all finished!

Hi Alisha! Still no workout for me yet.

Happy Tuesday!

Well...I talked to a couple of people about my car and they eased my fears. I have the car back and so far so good. I am keeping a close eye on it.

I want to go swimming tonight so if the weather clears I'm going to swim otherwise this will be my workout:

6 rounds
10 Swings
10 bicep curls
10 press
10 bench press
10 row
10 push-ups
10 walkout or plank

Tricia ~ I'm glad Stephen made it to Seattle. Those transactions can be stressful. Here is a mantra that my sister taught me..."expect the best". Keep saying it over and over. It does make you feel better.

Hi Alisha!

Thanks Jane! I'll start using that right away! I haven't heard from him since lunch time. He was at the marina early and we chatted a bit. I have no idea how the sail went or if he made it over to Orca's Island. He was going to go scout it as we would love to buy a plot there and later build a vacation/retirement house there. We shall see. I should hear from him later tonight at least.

No workout again, but I have been resisting the urge to eat out every night. I've made dinner at home, so my nutrition has been good. I've been doing my daily meditations and reading a lot.

Tomorrow is August 1st and I must get my butt moving! There is a cookout at one of the professor's houses at the end of the month and I don't want to be a fat slob when I go! I'm already self-conscious of being so much older with my gray at the temples and my hair thinning so much! Something has to be right!

Hope you got to swim! Either way, I know you got a killer workout today!

Hi Alisha!

Today was a rest day. I went to a seminar on Excel. Tomorrow will be a hike at the lake and some yoga.

Ever get to the point where your diet just doesn't seem to be cutting it? Today I was really good, I counted calories, ate reasonable food, but at the end of the day my ankles are super swollen and frankly I'm ready to go uber clean again with my eats because the idea of hurting like this just doesn't appeal at all. So. There I said it, I'm going clean starting tomorrow. I've done it before. I thought it didn't help. But, I can tell that what I'm doing now isn't working. I finally realized what I've been packing for lunch is fine, but just not enough of it, so I go and look for an additional snack (frozen yogurt, chocolate, etc.) and I think I just need more of the good stuff. I'm a bear of very little brain. Sometimes it takes swollen ankles to help me to understand whats going on with my body.

Jane- I'm so glad that you are back!!

Tricia-Don't forget: fat does not equal slob. You can only be a slob if you don't bathe, brush your teeth, brush your hair, and dress like trailer trash.

I did not get a swim in yesterday but I did do that workout which was extremely hard. I used a 45# barbell and my big 53# KB. Those walkouts are tough too. Then my sister and I did the farmer's walk around the block with 2-18# kettlebells. We each carried for a 1/2 block.

Today will be a run, unless it rains but I hope I get a run in because I have a race on Saturday and I haven't run since last week.

Alisha ~ Diet is a key for me. In September I went to the doctor and was told that I needed to lose weight. What?? I workout and I eat healthy but I went back to my diet and made some tiny changes and the weight started to come off..not fast...but it came off. I weighed myself at my mom's in late June or early July and I lost 17 pounds since September. It was all due to diet.

Enjoy your hike today.

Tricia ~ Do you color your hair? I'm not sure what my hair color is. I was born blonde but it has darkened over the year so I color. I use the box kind because it's much cheaper than the salon.

Evening ladies!

So, I'm not off to much of a start for August. Reading my book beat out my workout tonight! I fear I have become re-addicted to reading again. It feels good, but I'm going to have to force a happy medium. Too bad Kindles don't come with parental controls! :p

Alisha- Yep. Been there, done that. It takes getting hit over the head sometimes, doesn't it? Or swelling at the ankles! I'm sure you'll get it back under control and where you need to be.

LOL! Your definition of slop is spot on! I held my breath that you didn't say bad housekeeper, because that's totally me!

Hope you learned something you didn't know in your Excel workshop.

Jane - Glad you got a workout in anyway! That one sounded tough! I can't believe your doctor told you to lose weight! Even back when I was really heavy, my doctor didn't address it at all and if I brought it up, she didn't think I was overweight. Go figure. Doctors get no nutritional training in medical school and they really don't know a thing about healthy weight or healthy nutrition. Congrats on losing 17 lbs! That's totally awesome!

I used to color my hair, but ran into a change about 7 years ago where I started reacting to the dye with breakouts on my scalp, whelps and just nasty stuff and my hair fell out. I can't color any more. On the bright side, I'm only greying at the temples - mostly, so it looks pretty cool! My brother commented on it and asked how I managed such a precise greying! Ha! I always wished that if I had to go grey, I would go like that! At least once, I got my wish!

All went well with the test sail and survey. A few minor things need to be fixed, but they can wait until it gets here and we put it up for the winter. Now, we get the loan paperwork done and close. We still need to schedule shipping over here. Hope that happens quickly! Stephen went out to Orca's Island today to check it out. We want to buy some land there and build a vacation/retirement house there once he's working. It's a beautiful place! Hopefully, we will be able to find a good lot with a dock when we're ready!

Have a great night you two!

I got my run in last night but it was hot and steamy.

Here is what I'm doing tonight:
4 Rounds
60 seconds work/30 seconds rest of:
lateral rope jumps
bear crawl forward and backward
suicide shuttle runs
squat thrusts
broad jumps, squat jumps or body weight squats (I may alternate between the 3 exercises)

Mom had her 6 month check-up with the radiologist yesterday and she is doing well - NED (no evidence of disease). In October we have to take her to the oncologist at Shands.

Tricia ~ It's great that you are going grey gracefully. I have some white strands but mainly my original hair color is a drab looking light brown.

I can't believe the doctor told me that I needed to lose weight too. The scale is such an inaccurate tool as we all know there are many other factors. I did know that I needed to rein in my eating through as my portions had gotten bigger. I'm happy that I am able to be 50 and still lose weight even though I'm eating less and working out harder.

Reading....I love it. I haven't gone Kindle yet...still love my books. I will not tell you how many books I have to read and how many books I have on my Amazon wish list. I have really gotten into foreign mysteries and thrillers. I'm reading one that takes place in Scotland and it's fantastic! I can't wait for my beach vacation later in the month. Last year I read 5 books in a week.

I'm glad all went well with the test sail and survey.

Hi Alisha!

TGIF!

I am taking a rest day. I have a 5K trail run in the morning. I did this race last year and got some yucky sandy mud stuck to the bottom of my shoes that slowed me down. I'm wearing older shoes and am hoping that it's dry. It was one of my worst 5Ks most likely from the mud and the heat. I hope I do better this year.

Hi Jane!

Ick! Hot and steamy runs are not my favorite! Hope your workout today is awesome! (Like it won't be!) Very happy that your mom's checkup came out well! I'm sure she will continue to get good reports! Your books sound interesting! One of my favorite styles is historical fiction. I've read Mary, Queen of Scots, Henry VIII, Memoirs of Cleopatra and have a book on Nefretiti that I haven't started yet. Currently, I finished the second book in Robin Hobbs' Rain Wild Chronicles. I'm really enjoying those! Hard core Robin Hobbs fans have bashed these, so if these are her worst, I can't wait to read her other series!

I just started 50 Shades of Grey. Yes, I know. Stephen got it for me for free, so what the heck! After this one, I'll either read book 2 of The Hunger Games or Book 4 of The Dark Tower series.

Good luck in your trail run tomorrow! I hope you have nice weather and low humidity!

Hi Alisha!

and the saga continues

I'm sorry I forgot to check in yesterday. I've been really busy. First, on Tuesday someone stole my identity in London, so my ATM card was cancelled. Then, my brother got very sick, I was taking care of him (GI bug). And (but wait, theres more), then yesterday (coincident with the full moon) a family member (who shall remain nameless and is not me.) side swiped another car in our driveway. He then hopped out and kicked the car, denting the bumper with his boot. And then (the hits just keep on coming.) the washing machine has 'truly sincerely died' (sung to the tune from the Wizard of Oz. Think of the stockings rolling up under the fallen house.)

On Monday I tried a different book club. That was great. Its a 'geeky' book club, so lots of sci-fi books, fantasy, and talk about geeky tv shows.

So. yeah. I went for a hike with friends on Wednesday and yesterday. Today will be a Victoria Johnson DVD and belly dancing tape. Its ttotm so I'm taking it easy.

The plan for next week:
Sunday: Rest
Monday: Joggle/6 pack Abs w/Jillian
Tuesday: Cathe Low Max; Gary Bromley Yoga
Wednesday: Rest for Star 12 class.
Thursday: Cathe LIS; Shiva Rea
Friday: Joggle + Solar Yoga
Saturday: Shred it with weights; Bollyrobics Dance DVD; Lunar Yoga

Tricia- That reminds me I have to order the Hunger Games. Sheesh. I'm so behind. I don't have 50 Shades either.

Jane- Way to go on the 17 pounds! But, at least you can lose weight. Good job on your workouts!!

I think I just need to remain vigilant when it comes to the diet. Its so easy to sleep eat or to mindlessly eat something.

I will start us a new thread. I had hardly noticed that its August.

Alisha
