Jogglers July 2012

Hi ladies!

Again with the delayed check in!

Jane - Congrats on your mom's progress! Glad she is doing better and her sugar is under control! I really wish I were going through menopause already. I'm so tired of having to take these pills even though I love not having a period but 4 times a year! I just want to be done with the whole thing!

Alisha - Glad you got good news from your doc!

I've just been toodling around. Getting what I can done, workouts, reading, etc. It's nice to have a garden I don't have to spend much time in! I'm sure once my plants start producing edibles though, I'll be out there harvesting a lot! Hopefully, anyway! I don't need as many plants as I have out there, but I can't seem to bring myself to take them all out except for 2 or 3 of each variation! I think I'm gong to be in overload! lol

Everything is coming up now, even my peppers that I thought were just not going to. I don't really need 20 tomatillo and tomato plants! I hate to kill them though, but I think I'm going to have to pull some of them. I'll know better next year and only put a few seeds out!

Played golf yesterday. It was hot! 95! We had a good time as usual. I tried new golf shoes that were so cute, but they blistered the sides of my heels before I even finished the 2nd hole. Had to change shoes before teeing off on the 3rd. Bummer. Taking them back today and trading for a different pair. I guess I'm going to have to go more traditional - blech. These were a slip-on that you wear without socks. Kind of like a loafer. Adorable and the reviews were really good. Alas! Not on my feet. We shall see what I can do. Maybe at least I can get a pretty color. Won't get to try them until maybe Thursday, if us girls play this week.

Enjoying a lazy Sunday. It's hot and humid out. More of a southern type day! Going to have lunch then go get the things I need from the grocery.

Have a fabulous afternoon!

Happy Monday!

9 Mile Run

Tonight is squat day so I'll be doing 8 or 9 round tonight of 10 reps of 4 different squats.

The weekend went by so fast but it was good. I got a lot done around the house this week and also relaxed as well.

Alisha ~ I'm glad you had good news from the doctor. I hope you enjoyed your rest day.

Tricia ~ I'm glad you plants are coming up. Yay!! I just planted the 4 blueberry bushes that I got in June. Hopefully they will take but we won't see any berries until next year. Sorry to hear about the golf shoes. The pretty ones always hurt. Hope you find a better pair that will work for you.

Well...time to get to work. Have a great day!

Happy Monday!

I'm about to go for a hike. I won't know until this evening whether or not I will have jury duty tomorrow. I am planning to get up early and do 'Crunch Cardio Blast.'

Jane- Good job on your workouts!! Blueberries sound good. I stopped buying them at the store because they often have mold on them. I hate moldy fruit. Have a great day at work. Squats always toast my butt, dom city.

Tricia- Don't go looking for menopause too soon, once you start you may wish you hadn't, the brain fog seems to be the hardest thing, not to mention weight gain around the waist. (my Mom has been through it already.) You can 'can' your extra tomatoes as salsa. Yum. Can you tell?, I have Salsa on the brain.:p I am sorry that the shoes didn't work very well. I hate blisters. Have you tried any of those bamboo socks? They are supposed to be great at wicking sweat.

Jane - I find it funny that you call those workouts "fun!" Wow! Glad you had a good weekend! I'll be rooting for your blueberry bushes! I have the same problem with blueberries as Alisha, but they usually look find until I get down about halfway through the pint. The farm didn't seem to get any in this year. :(

Alisha - I hope you had a nice hike today! Keeping my fingers crossed for you that you don't end up on jury duty! Ugh! I didn't know there'd be middle spread! Yikes! I certainly don't need that! Okay, maybe in about 5 more years, or 10 . . .

Salsa sounds interesting. Do you have any insights as to how to do it and keep it fresh for a long time? I could do it with tomatoes and tomatillos to make things interesting! I've never seen bamboo socks. I'll have to look for some!

Got home and my oat groats and buckwheat groats had arrived! Yay! I can always find oat groats in Whole Foods, but never buckwheat groats, so I broke down and ordered them on subscription from Amazon. Now, I can finally make my crispies for my morning cereal when I just don't feel like making a smoothie or cutting up a ton of fruit for breakfast! Yippee! Gotta do some fresh almond milk though, but not until tomorrow. I have to soak my groats all night, then I can dehydrate them tomorrow.

Well, time to go read a while. Just wanted to pop in and say hi before I got settled and Stephen comes home! Went to the grocery tonight instead of a workout, but it rained so I don't have to water the garden! Yay!

I have yet to make it for a morning workout, but I'm trying again tomorrow! Send me all your good wake up vibes!

See ya later! :D

Yesterday's hike was great. It was actually unseasonably cool. I had to wear a little overshirt. Don't worry, the forecast says it will be back at 100 deg. F within the next 10 days, so I don't suppose that Fall has actually arrived early.:p

I planned on doing yoga, but my day got busy (code for I just didn't do it.) I also intended on doing that Crunch DVD, but it hasn't arrived yet (Netflix.) so I think I will do a Kathy Smith DVD. Tomorrow will be a hike/jog.

Three pairs of my workout capris have given up the ghost in the last week. My Mother said that normal people wouldn't have that problem but Cathletes do:eek: I just think that the water is hard and shreds our clothes. I have had them for over 5 years and I workout a lot.

Tricia- I get my groats on vitacost. I hadn't thought of amazon.

To keep salsa fresh can it. Its actually jarring but just look up 'canning' and be careful. This is a hot steamy process so you don't want to burn yourself. You should be able to find a book on the topic at your library. I don't know if it is allowed on your 'raw' diet because when you can, you bring everything up to a high temperature to set the seal on the lid. However, that said, its ok to eat cooked tomatoes, I understand that is supposed to make the licopene availble some way (I don't really know, thats all second hand from Dr. Oz.) I just thought it would be such a waste to throw out perfectly good tomatoes.

Jane- How was today's workout?

If the blueberries work out, I will send you both some from my backyard!! :)

I am resting today. I'm starting to feel the leg workout from last night already.

Tricia ~ Haven't you figured it out yet...I am weird? I like weird workouts where you jump over ropes and swing kettlebells while walking. LOL! We are suppose to get some rain today and for the rest of the week. Of course we have lots of hit and miss showers. You hear the thunder but it doesn't actually rain. It just means it's raining nearby.

Alisha ~ I hope you have a great workout today. Wearing out your workout clothes is a good thing. It's better than ignoring them.

I'm about to go for a hike. I will do some yoga afterwards. Tomorrow will be that Crunch workout that came in the mail.

Jane- Thats a great point, I will remember that its better to wear them out than to ignore my workout clothes. Enjoy your rest day.

I don't think you're weird.

Tricia-Did you get a workout today?

Alisha

Alisha - My mom used to can a lot when she had her garden in NH ages ago. Don't know if I would want to go that route. She had a lot of specialty equipment for it, but she did save a ton of tomatoes and make lots of jelly!

Glad you had a nice cool day! We've been broiling here, but had really horrible thunderstorms earlier this afternoon that is supposed to cool us down a bit. Poor Peanut! I was at work! I had Stephen put her thundershirt on her before he left for school. By the time I got home, it was all over and she was okay.

I hate how washing destroys clothes, but I guess we have to do it or they get all stinky and stuff! A good excuse to get new ones!

I did not do a workout. I'm struggling with jealousy. My two co-workers go the gym together now and, for some ridiculous reason, it's really bugging me. I want to show them up, but that's not even enough to get my butt going some days. I'm really trying! I have good days and bad and I'll go 3-4 days and do something, then screw up and do nothing. I'm going to take some time this weekend to put together some premixes on Workout Blender and focus on short HIIT and 30 minute or less workouts, including my Turbo Fire HIIT workouts to see if I can light a fire under my butt that way.

Hope you enjoyed your hike today! I wish we lived close so you could drag my butt out there! You or Jane could whip me into shape! Or at the very least, throw something at me and make me run!

Jane - I will be sending good vibes to your blueberry bushes! I know you're weird. That's why we get along so beautifully! Us weirdos have to stick together. The rest of the world just doesn't get us! ;)

I've been doing the Chopra Center 21-Day Meditation Challenge. I just completed Day 3 today. I think I totally dozed off for a couple of minutes tonight during this one. Hopefully, this will at least help my mood and I can gather myself together or get a start anyway.

Tomorrow I go for my ultrasound. I'll let you know how that goes. I should know immediately if there is a problem or I'm just having weird issues. I really wish the cramping would go away! That is just the worst! I feel 16 again! Ugh!

Have a good night!

It rained

I never did any yoga yesterday. Briefly this morning, it rained on me when I took out the trash. We hardly ever get summer rain, its normally very dry and arid here. I changed my mind, its a yoga day. Tomorrow will be a jog/walk plus some yoga.

Tricia- We could play zombies, I would be the zombie and chase you, and of course, you would want to run, not wanting to be eaten.;) Poor Peanut, I don't love thunder either, there is just so much electricity in the air.

I hope that they can fix the cramping, that sounds awful. Your meditation challenge may help. Ibuprofen helps with mine. I know I keep harping on this, but have you tried one of those cal/mag/zinc tablets (with food, get a vegetarian one of course.)? They can help. It takes at least 30 minutes to absorb. I wonder if a nuun tablet would work, I've never really thought about those kinds of cramps in terms of sodium, but maybe since you do drink wine sometimes (which is dehydrating), you might be a little dehydrated and needing some salts. If I was cramping like that I wouldn't want to do any exercise either. Btw, I don't care if you can exercise or not, we are here for you no matter what. I wonder if acupuncture or acupressure would help.

I agree, us weirdos must stick together!

Jane- I've been thinking about home made blueberry muffins. But, I know it will take some time because the bushes have to grow first:p Did you get a good workout today?

Alisha

Here is tonight's workout:

20-16-12-8-4
Jump Rope (60,48, 36, 24, 12)
KB Presses
Ball Slams
Swings

Yesterday was a 3 mile run.

Tricia ~ Your workout goal needs to be 3 or 4 days. Schedule it like you would any appointment. Stick to the 3 or 4 days for a while and then up it if you can. That way you will not set yourself up for failure. When I saw the July Challenge goals for some people I cringed a little because it seems like many of the people were doing too much compared to what they had been doing before. The whole purpose of the challenge is to set reasonable goals that fit your lifestyle not to do what you wish you could do. I hope you will think about doing that next time (if you do it) because it would be much easier and something I know you would accomplish.

Don't worry about anyone else but yourself. Keeping my fingers crossed that the ultrasound goes well.

Alisha ~ I don't think we'll see blueberry until next year but at least they are still upright in the ground. :) Enjoy your yoga!

Alisha ~ Have fun on your hike. Is this meet up with a person or group. Let us know how it went.

Yesterday's workout was incredibly sweaty and steamy. We had a rain shower come through before the workout.

Here is tonight's workout. I'm looking forward to it.

Tricia ~ I hope everything went well yesterday.

My new group is 6 gals, most of us need to lose some weight or maintain a loss. We hiked around the wet lands down in Folsom. It was great. I love having company. Its too bad we don't live closer. I will do some yoga tonight before bed.

Tricia- How are you doing?

Jane- That looks like a great workout.

Alisha

I forgot to do my yoga. Or rather, I stayed up and watched 'Suits' instead. I plan to do Shred it with Weights, that Crunch disc today then some yoga, no really I mean it this time:p Tomorrow will be Low Impact Challenge.

Alisha

Good Morning,

Friday's workout was very tough for some reason. Doing the farmer's walk, racked and overhead driveway walks were very hard. I used 2-25# bells for the farmer's and racked and used 2-18# the overheard for the first round and then went down to 2-14# for the rest of the workout.

Saturday I worked at my mom's house outside for about 2 hours so I didn't do a formal workout.

Sunday was a 9 mile run.

Today I will be doing a leg workout - probably my squat routine.

I had to take my car to the dealer this morning because it was leaking oil. It is only 3+ months old. I had the oil changed (not by the dealer) on the 13th so perhaps they didn't tighten something. At least it's under warranty if it's something else.

Alisha ~ Hope you got your yoga in. How was your weekend?

Hi Tricia!

I did enjoy Shred it and that Crunch DVD. It was kind of fun, but I think I prefer the 'In 10' series better than the Crunch DVDs.

I did not exercise today. It was a rest day. Instead, I attended a seminar on 'Thinking outside the box' for managers. Honestly, I think it was not that great, however, I did meet a really nice gal that works at the casino just up the hill. So, making a new friend is win in my book. Tomorrow will be a jog/hike and some yoga.

Jane- My yoga has been a mirage, not real, lol. I just haven't been feeling like it since our lightening storm the other night. The lightening went sideways and kept striking repeatedly in one spot. So much for the idea that it doesn't do that. I think that working for your Mom qualifies as a workout. I hope that your car is ok.

Tricia- How are you? How is Peanut?

Alisha

Hi!

Monday I did a total of 360 squats -9 rounds, 10 reps of 4 different kinds of squats. Yesterday I swam laps for 40 minutes. Water felt good on my tired legs....soft and warm.

Tonight will be a run and that's it really for this week. I'm going out of town tomorrow and won't be back until Sunday. I might workout while I'm gone but I'm probably not going to as I haven't taken more than 1 day in a row and I could probably use the rest. My hip has been bothering a little after my long runs.

My car will be released today. They had to order a part and it will be fixed today. I'm going to pick it up thinking I'm getting a brand new car (trying to have a Positive Mental Attitude (PMA)) about the whole thing.

Alisha ~ Sideway lightening...yikes. That sounds scary. Gaining new friends is always a good thing!!

Hi Tricia!

Have a good rest of the week. I'll be back on Monday!

Jane- I think a rest is definitely a good idea. I highly recommend it. Have a good time on your trip. I hope that your car is ok.

I went for a hike and then some jog/walk intervals this morning. It was really nice out. I saw a fairly good size coyote, a vole, a bunny, and a brown hawk. The hawk was so beautiful. I'm planning on some yoga this afternoon.

Yesterday I found a house in town that is for sale and might do the trick for us if we have to move due to the encroaching equestrian center and apt. complex. We are supposed to be living in a neighborhood zoned for 5 to 20 acre parcels. But, if they insist on destroying the peace and quiet and removing our ability to get into and out of our neighborhood, we will need to move to town.

Alisha

Hi ladies!

I was abducted by aliens! I swear!

I knew I hadn't been on in a while, but didn't realize it had been THIS long! Sorry!

Alisha - Zombie Games! You're on! Thanks for all the suggestions with the cramping. I really hate taking pills. My doc gave me the okay to just keep taking my hormone pills without going off for a week to curb it until I hit menopause. Suits me! No real periods? Awesome!

Are you going to keep going out with your meetup group? Sounded like fun! Nice that you made a new friend at that seminar! That makes it worth it to me! I would hate it if you had to move from the lovely place you have now! I guess that's the way things go sometimes, though. Don't have to like it. :(

Jane - Thanks for the workout tip! I know I should just focus on a few day. I think I want to focus on strength training and dump the cardio - just for a short while and see how that goes. So much research and so many people swear that works better than a lot of cardio, or I might just make my cardio short HIIT/Tabata workouts since those seem to be getting all the hype these days. Maybe 3 days of strength and one or two days of short HIIT workouts. I think it's the time each day that has been daunting lately.

That stinks about your brand new car! Hopefully, the problem is fixed and you can rest easy now for a few years! How was your weekend? Hope you enjoyed yourself and took a good rest! Your workouts are always so tough and intense!

I'm looking forward to blueberries too! Yum!

Well, we have news. We are buying a boat. We're having to take out a loan, but the last car will be paid off in October, so we'll still be in the positive by a little more than $300 a month even with the boat payment. We're trying to sell our rowing shell to help pay for some of it, but we haven't had any takers yet. It's in Seattle and the owners just accepted our counter to their counteroffer last night. We signed the P&S and sent the deposit today. Stephen will fly to Seattle on Monday to handle the test sail and get the survey done. We'll close remotely and then we have to schedule a transport company to ship it to us. Wish we didn't have to do that, but 3000 miles is a long way to drive a boat and it doesn't have a trailer. We would have had to dole out another $5000 for that and we can't store it at home anyway. Won't fit in our tiny driveway! It's a 27' Stilletto Catamaran. We're very excited! I was going to go with, but airfare is ridiculous right now! Plus, we'd have to pay for kenneling the pups, etc., etc.

Depending on how long it takes to get the boat here, it may end up going straight to storage for the year until next season. It'll be tough waiting, but we'll have a lot of fun sailing next summer! Feel free to come over and go out with us anytime! We'd have so much fun sailing, swimming, riding bikes on the islands . . .

Okay, gotta fly! Take care you two! Have a great night!

Dang Aliens!!

Don't they know better than to interfere with a Cathlete's check-in!!:p

Tricia- Hey, don't worry about it. That boat sounds like so much fun! Definitely, try a couple of weeks of just 3 day splits or whole body and then two days of higher intensity (no more than 30 min. total including warm up/cool down.)

I think I'm going to do Low Impact Challenge. This evening will be Yoga Relax. Tomorrow will be a jog/hike.

Alisha
