Jillybean! Tell us all about...

Well, I want to go back, I'll say that first.

The first three days were in Rome.

Wed: We flew in late, went to bed.
Thu: Got up early and walked to the Coliseum, the forum, etc. It was fascinating! Next we went to a museum with art from 200 BC. Hard for me to fathom that.
Fri: We went to Vatican City and walked around Vatican Palace. We saved the Sistene Chapel for last and I was glad. I sat there motionless and eventually cried. It was so beautiful. I pulled it together and we headed to St. Peter's. There I saw Michelangelo's Pieta and cried all over again. We saw a few more museums near our hotel and had pizza and gelato for dinner, mmm!
Sat: We went to Pompeii. This was my husband's favorite, so it was nice to see him so pumped, although I have to admit I was a tad bored.
Sun: We drove to the Amalfi Coast and the water was turquoise, no lie!
Mon: More coastal splendor.
Tue: We drove to Tuscany. It looks like it does in movies and pictures. Gorgeous!
Wed: Walked to town alone and hung out with the locals, amazed at how stylish everyone is, even on a weekday!
Thu: Drove to Florence, my favorite city of all! Our hotel was half a block away from the Brunelleschi's Duomo. I stared at the Baptistery doors with my mouth open. Next we went to the Bargello and saw more Michelangelo sculpture and saw Santa Croce.
Fri: Museum Day! Went to the Ufizzi at 8:00 a.m. I was stunned at all that was there! Next was the Accademia. I cried when I saw David. His right side was obstructed by scaffolding so they had pictures of him hanging up and they looked like black and white photos of a human body. I was stunned. Then we walked to the Museo Opera del Duomo which houses the Pieta that Michelangelo was working on for his own tomb. Darn it, I cried again!

I decided then that had I lived during the 1500's, I would have had a torrid affair with Michelangelo. Oh I know he was gay, but I would have worked something out. We walked to Piazza Del Michelangelo, which was his favorite spot to hang out and soak in the sites. I pictured the two of us picnicing there, me plating me hair in the warm Florentine sun, he sketching me in charcoal. Yes, I am that dorky. I cannot recommend Italy enough. Ciao!

Wow!!! This sounds like the vacation of my dreams! After DH and I saw "Under The Tuscan Sun" we were ready to pack our bags and go! Thanks for sharing Jilly! You took in a lot and experienced a lot!

Take care! ;-)

Oh Jillybean....this sounds so romantic! You're so lucky. Your memories are so vividly worded...can almost close my eyes and be there. Glad you had a great time, except for the crying!;) I cry at kids movies, so I'd have been a mess. Thanks for sharing.

HI Jillybean,

I am so glad you had a wonderful time in Italy. I live in northern Italy and love it here. My husband extended an extra year so we will not leave until July '05.

This summer my family and I spent three days in Rome. It's so fascinating. I realized that modern Rome is built on top of ancient Rome. They are still digging up ruins. We stayed by the Vatican and saw the Pope on Wednesday morning during Mass. Something we will not forget.

I am w/ you about Florence. Florence and Verona are tied w/ me as being my favorite cities in Italy. Haven't made it down south yet. Hope to do that over Spring break.

Glad you got back home safe and sound. How did you like the FOOD??:9

Wow Jillybean! That sounds so fun!!

I was laughing at the Micelangelo comment. Too funny!!

I'm glad you had fun...someday I'll go on a trip like that! :)

Jealous! Happy for you but jealous! My day in Italy will come, I pray! It's wonderful to hear you had such a lovely time and that my dreams of visiting Italy are worth it! And Lollie, give me some tips! DH and I are seriously planning to go Lord willing, but the only other country we've visited is Mexico (well, Canada too). Plus, we want to travel in Europe by ourselves before we pack up our boys and take them with. I think I need to go to the library for more books on Italy...

Sami...

Lucky? Yes! Romantic? No. DH and I were accompanied by his mother, father, aunt, sister, and brother. That's a whole lotta people sharing a rental car, hotel room, etc. BUT - we all got along splendidly and I would travel with the 6 of them again in a heartbeat! And another really cool part of the trip - my Cathe DVDs were on my front step when I got home!!!
