hi jackie, are you out there? After my first (and most probably last) month on othe pill I am wondering about trying the natural hormone creams instead. I was wondering about your experience. On a different forum (not exercise-related) I have heard very positive testimonials about the progesterone cream for PMS, I'm wondering what your experience was?

I am at the end of month 1 of Levlite which has 20 mcg of estrogen and some progesterone too (can't remember how much). Anyway, it is definitely low dose. But I don't know if I can face this on a permanent basis. My moods have evened out, which was my NUMBER ONE concern. However, there has been a cost. I normally sleep like a log, this month I've had lots of insomnia. I've been nauseated at night. Worst of all, I've had panic attacks! Is that weird or what? NOT hot flashes. Panic attacks (although they can feel similar, I know the difference having had experience with both). I had panic attacks for about 6 months after my first daughter was born. At the time I just thought I was insecure and nutso, now I am wondering if it was hormonal then and is hormonal now. Plus, my sex drive is gone with the wind. This is NOT like me. My poor husband, I've gone from :-jumpy to :-sleepy (just had to get a couple emoticons in there!

This all seems odd to me because I thought that some of these were things the pill was supposed to FIX! Anyway, this is WAY too high a cost to pay for evened out moods and evened out cycles. Interestingly, my 6 week cycles and hot flashes have happened the last two SUMMERS but never in the winter (increased stress with everyone home and schedule irregular, maybe??). Anyway, any advice would be appreciated.

OH, and heartburn, did I mention heartburn?? Ick. I have never had heartburn in my life except during my three pregnancies. Then I was miserable with it. This is the first time I've EVER had heartburn in a nonpregnant state.

'scuse my butting in...

Hey Susan,

Might I suggest trying to stick with the pill just a little bit longer? I went off the pill for awhile, because of some awful side effects I was getting, but recently started again after speaking with my gyno. She put me on Loestrin (20 mcg). I was very skeptical, and sure enough the first month was hell! I felt terrible. But my doc urged me to stick with it for at least 3 cycles (to let the body acclimate) before giving up completely; so I did. I'm in month 4 now, and have felt drastic improvements over the last two months. I'm really feeling like myself again, and thinking I actually kinda like this pill. I never thought I'd say I like a bcp!

Might be worth hanging in there just a little bit longer!

I've heard the same thing

I had a lot of trouble when I would start on BCPs and my pharmacist told me that the side effects would go away after a few cycles. I decided against it and went off of the pill, but I do believe that your body adjusts to the hormones after a while.

RE: Doesn't take me too long to respond

Hi, Sorry it took so long to see your message. I have had great luck with the natural progesterone cream. It has stopped my flashes and night sweats. My periods are also less painful. I read about the cream in Dr. John Lee's book. He has a website that speaks about the creams. Good luck,
