It's very annoying when people say this.......

So I'm at a tag sale yesterday and I was asking if they had any fitness related items. This guy who overheard says to me, "Why do you need to exercise?" I practically attacked the [poor] guy. I told him that everyone needs to exercise for cardiovascular health, muscle tone and conditioning and that our bodies are designed to move, etc. He says "I know, I walk 30 minutes everyday. I just meant it as a compliment." Awwww, do ya think he think I snapped at him? lol :p }( I did understand what he was trying to say but I guess it's the way people say things. I was buying a box of protein bars 2 days ago and the word diet appears on the box. The guy in front of me says "What do you need to go on a diet for?" I went through a similar retort and this guy goes on to say how he eats protein bars too! Aye, aye, aye! People need to think about how they say things before they speak, and if they don't, there just might be someone like me who feels it's their duty to, ahem, "educate" them, lol. }( :p :7

I hear you. I eat 5 meals a day with lean protein at every meal. I hardly eat protein bars but when I do it's usually because I'm at work in a meeting or something and can't do an actual meal. My protein bar says in big letters : PROTEIN DIET which I hate, because it makes me feel like people will look at me like "you need to eat some real food and not diet." I usually open the bar and keep it in my bag and just tear it out in pieces and put it into my mouth.

Maybe I just need to find a protein bar with a better name. ;-)

Come to think of it, I need to find a protein bar with a better taste. }(

Oh, I hear you. I really don't like it when people say "why do you need to exercise, you're skinny". Well, ahem, I'm not fat BECAUSE I exercise. Or "oh, you're skinny, you can eat anything". Well, no, I can't, because if I ate anything, then I certainly wouldn't be anywhere near skinny.

I was running one day, and passed by an older lady getting her mail out of her mailbox. She smiled at me and said, "Honey, you don't need to be running!" I understood that she meant it as a compliment. I would never snap back at someone, especially those that just don't understand about exercise. I responded, "Thank you ma'am, but I enjoy it!"

In many people's minds, the only reason for exercise is to lose weight. They haven't been taught the concept of exercising for good and continuing health. It's no big deal to me what they think. I accept that what they are saying is a compliment, backhanded of sorts, but still well meant. :)

It's really none of their business, so why bother explaining yourself? Don't let people's inappropriate comments push your buttons--all your exercise and healthy eating will go to waste if you allow stress and agitation to bother you. :)

It could have been the *way* he said it to you that made you snap at him. A few months ago I went out with some girlfriends at Applbee's. I ordered one of the Weight Watchers meals. I got the comments like "you dont need to worry about you eat..." You're so right about educating people.

When people say stuff like that to me it doesn't really bother me b/c I know they mean it as a compliment. But on numerous occasions I have said " I look like this b/c I run..." that sort fo thing. If I didn't I would probably be a big tub of goo.
It irritates me more when an overweight women tells me that I won't look like that after I have had kids b/c they looked like me before they had kids. Obviously they are using the excuse *I have had kids and I lost my body* . You should see the look on their faces when I tell them I already have one. The usually stop the conversation then.

Yes, indeed. At times like this, people don't seem to make the logical connection. "you don't have to avoid (lard/sugar/X fattening or unhealthy food), you're skinny" (aside from the fact that I hate the word "skinny"!). HOW DO YOU THINK I GOT THIS WAY!!! (Or, what I sometimes think: "If I ate the way you do, I'd LOOK the way you do!").
