Happy Holidays to all!!
I am looking to buy a heart monitor.
I was wondering if anyone could give me any advise as far as brands, experience, etc. I am
looking to buy a good one, between $100. - $200. (or less of course).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Faythe

I have a Cardio sport heart rate monitor watch that I use for spinning class and I found it easy to use and program. It tracks your calories, ounces of weight loss and fat burning based on your actual calories which are calculated off of your actual heart rate and time elapsed. I got it for $105 from a online vendor egeneralmedical.com and I really like it especially when I compare it to my sister's (which is a different brand name that I cannot remember). It also has a transmitter that goes around your chest and you can change that battery yourself. The Polar type, from what I understand from the one my sister HAD, has to be returned to them for the battery change.
Good Luck.

I've had the same Polar Heart Rate Monitor since Feb 1997. I don't think the company sells this model anymore but it's a Polar Edge NV. When I bought it it was $188, but HR Monitors have gotten really affordable since then. As far as features go it has a watch, alarm, and backlight. It tells you your total exercise time and how much of it you spent on your target heart rate. It beeps if you go over or under your zone and it shows a black bar for every ten mins you spend on your zone. It doesn't have that total calories burned feature because they added that years later. But it works for me. About the battery, it's true that when you read the manual it says you have to take your Polar transmitter to the nearest Polar authorized service centre, but I never did that. I've had to replace the battery twice. What I did was check the battery type on the manual and then I went to the nearest Walgreens, bought the battery and replaced it myself. As long as you have those small screwdrivers you can do it.

I think I'm going to get the Polar a5 soon just because my experience with Polar has been amazing. I saw it the other day while surfing the net, it was $99 at drugstore.com and it has anything and everything you need for the perfect workout. I might give this one to my brother who knows? But this little monitor has been so good to me it's really hard to replace it.
