Is this a Good choice for a Barbell?

Hi Amelia! I am fairly sure that is the set Cathe & crew use in some of the workouts so I would say it is a GOOD choice. :7 The price is GREEEEEAT! I'd say go for it.

I think someone on this forum ordered it and chose the option to have it delivered to the store so she could pick it up and not get charged shipping!

Tess is right...there is a link on the site that you can click on to have it delivered to the store for free if they don't have them in stock. Let us know when you have it in your home already to use! :7

Amelia, I checked the Walmart site for you. It looks like you've chosen the 100-lb. barbell set. Why not start with the 55-lb. set? That's the one Cathe uses in some of her workouts. If you find you need more weight, you can always add additional plates later. However, I think you'll find that 55 lbs. is plenty. The 55-lb. set has a price of $19.66, and the set you chose has a price of $38.62. It's very difficult to lift more than 55 lbs. at home without a spotter.

HTH,
Nancy

That looks like the same one that I ordered from Amazon. It's a good one, but not the Troy Lite brand that Cathe uses. You'll be happy with your purchase, although you will need to buy a pair of 5# and 2.5# plates for it.

If it is indeed like mine, you have a pair of 20# plates, 2 pair of 10# plates, and a pair of 8# plates. The bar is 4#. So you would only be able to go up in increments of 20#, instead of a more reasonable amount of 5#.

Hope that made sense.

Diane

I'm back to tell you that, if you don't mind paying for shipping, for about $10 more you can get the Troy Lite set, which so many of us love. It's here. Just scroll down the page:

Of course, as others have mentioned, you can save the hefty shipping cost by picking up your barbell at Walmart yourself, in which case the savings will be a lot more than $10.

Okay, I think I'm done now. :p

Amelia, I would go with the 55# set. It can withstand a max wt of 140#'s which is more than you'll ever use at home. I would definitely add some 2.5# plates, too.

ETA that if you're willing to spend a little extra, the Troy Lite set is a little more versatile. It comes with four 2.5# plates, two 5# plates, and two 7.5# plates. The bar weighs 5#'s. Ten pound plates do not come with the Troy Lite set, but you can purchase them extra. Still, I think you'll get more use out of the smaller weights. I love the 2.5's and 7.5's!!

Thanks, Michele. That's what I was trying to say, but it was taking me about 4 posts. I still need a lot more coffee.

I stand corrected...it was the 55# set that Cathe used. Thanks guys! But, the 100 # set is a great price too. Not that I'd ever lift that much! Nanc, can I join you for that cup of coffee???

To be honest, Deb, I've never even lifted 55, though I think I used to do 45 in my stronger days. Sure, c'mon over! I'm havin' freshly ground Sumatra Mandheling :9 :9 .

I have the Wal Mart 55 lb. set and I really like it. The 100 lb. set is a great price, but I doubt I'd ever use that much for Cathe's workouts. So, I got the 55 lb. set and figured I can always but additional weights. I got 2.5 lb. weights there for $1.40.

Anyway, I think this set is just fine.

Hey guys!
Thanks sooo much,Now that I think about it, 100lb set is a little to much for me!

Ill go with the 55lb set,I'll go check it out now on walmart.com!

Im so excited(and I just can't hide it;-))!!!!!!!

Take care:)

Would someone please post a link to the 55lb set. I'm not able to find it on Wal-Mart's site.

Thank you

ETA: Never mind, I found it when I searched weights instead of barbells
