Is StepBlast choreography difficult?

With all the talk, you've peaked my interest in SB. I used to do step for years, but after two kids and not doing it for a long time, I'm nervous. I got All Step with my step, but was quickly overwhelmed with the choreography. How does SB compare?
Thanks for your help,
Bobbi

Hi Bobbi,

First off, All Step is not the benchmark for Cathe's step workouts. I can't believe they included this one with the Step for so long (I believe the Step now comes with Basic Step+Body Fusion). It's totally intimidating because it moves a warp speed! Once you get the hang of Cathe's step, it's doable, but definitely not for someone just starting out.

Most of Cathe's newer step workouts, including Step Blast, assume you have knowledge of some of her moves that were introduced in earlier workouts. Because of this, Cathe doesn't necessarily break down the moves because she assumes you know what a 'figure 8' already is. Step Blast is a bit easier to learn, IMO, because a lot of the moves from the warm up show up again in the 3 combos. IMO, the combos get progressively more complex. So if you wanted to try it, you could do the warm up and combo 1, then do combo 1 again, until you got it down (this is so easy to do because Cathe's DVD's are so well chaptered and have both mix and match features and workout blender). Then you could move on to combo 2 etc. One word of caution, Cathe's cueing doesn't seem up to it's usual level. There are a couple of times she's cueing as the move is being performed rather than before, which if you don't know the routine, means your standing there watching her.

Another option is to go a little retro and get the Cardio Hits DVD with Step Fit, Step Works, and Power Max on it. In these workouts she introduces the moves that show up over and over again in her later workouts. These are all great workouts!

As Cathe says, pause and rewind will be your friends, as you're trying to learn her choreography. But once you get it down, her workouts are a blast!

Bobbi I think that if you have done step for years you are not going to have problems with SB. I have problems with all steps and rithmic step but SB is easy to learn.

I'm just like Stayfit. I still can't seem to get the hang of Rhythmic Step, but I got Step Blast in just a couple of tries.

I am now doing what Sabine recommended -- learning the first two combos well before going on to the third -- and that makes this workout fun for me. There's a little too much turning in the third combo to learn it all at once! I've been thinking of ordering one of the early step dvds --- is Cardio Hits or the Classics the one to get? I don't think I want two of the older ones, but I would like to get one of them and maybe follow a progression in learning the step moves. Or, if I've already struggled my way through Step Blast, should I just move on and skip the early stuff? Thanks! Carol

I've never done All Step before, so I can't say how they compare. Step Blast has a couple combos that are a tad tricky. But it doesn't take long to get them down. Just try them and don't worry about what you look like - who's gonna see you anyway? Cathe always recommends watching the workout a couple times through before you do them (I never do, but it seems like good advice). If you can do that - then you can probably practice some of the more complicated ones before it counts.

I don't see why not to go with Cardio Hits Or the Classics. I still think they get your HR up IMO. I have all of Cathe and still go to her old stuff. If you don't mind the outdated clothes or music then I say go for it.
