Is it ok to mix programs?

Someone once told me that I should just stick to one thing - just do P90X or just do a Cathe rotation or just Chalene etc. I hate to believe that's true. Is it ok to mix them up? I know I have a LOT of different workouts but sometimes I'm ok with Tony Horton, sometimes I want to grab a Piyo. Am I not being effective?

I think it's fine to mix them up. It's good to always keep your body guessing so it doesn't get used to one thing. If you are lifting, you do want to make sure you give the muscle group the appropriate amount of rest time between workouts. Same with doing any type of HiiT workouts. I stick with mostly Cathe workouts but I'll toss in Amy Bento from time to time. Lately I've been doing one week where I will do three days of weights (Monday Chest & Back; Weds Bi's & Tri's (maybe shoulders), Fri legs and shoulders if I don't do them on one of the other days. The Tues, Thurs, Sat I do a really good tough cardio workout. Then the following week on M, W, F I'll do more circuit type workouts and then Tues, Thur, Sat cardio that's not as intense. So far I've been really enjoying it and it's been working for me.

That' my opinion on it

Good Luck!

Thank you for your post! That's exactly what I've been trying to figure out. So I think I will go back to alternating weights and cardio every other day.

Let's say you're in the middle of a three month rotation, and the workouts have become stale, and you're bored out of your mind. Throw something new in the mix. Your mind and body will appreciate it. You're getting no benefit if you are just going through the motions, waiting for the rotation to be over. I'm a big fan of consistently inconsistent.

I've never really followed a rotation for any program. I"ve always switch up depending on my mood. I'm 44 and in great shape (no magazine cover got some cellulite on back of my legs but my dh doesn't notice it says my legs look great the best in our 24 year marriage (we started dating when I was 17 so seriously I'm sure at some point in my younger years I had to of looked better LOL - but love is blind)

I took my mom for an endoscopy a few weeks ago and her doctor was very flattering said I look like I work out and I had very nice looking legs ;)

I think the most important thing about working out is to love what your doing. The key is consistency and you want be constant for the rest of your life with something you dread.

I'm on a recovery week this week so I'm only running and doing body weight stuff but my typical workout week is very mixed

This was last week

Sunday

15 min warm up spin, Xtrain Burn set chest, 20 min Hiit spin, Xtrain Burn set tricep, and complete another 15 min of spin - stetch

Monday

STS Total Body Leg Triset 1, Xtrain BS Back, STS Total Body TRicet 2, Xtain BS shoulders, STS total body leg triset 3, Xtrain BS Biceps - stretch

Tuesday

I did a 2 mile run and an hour of Piyo (not the new set a download from youtube)

Wednesday (repeated Sunday)

Thursdays ( repeated Monday)

Friday Studio Sweat on demand SPin HIIT hour class (major kick butt LOL)

Saturday repeat Tuesday

(you may of notice I didn't work my my legs much I really don't need to because when I use STS total body legs stuff. I use 60lb bb and 2 30 lb dumbbell and it totally fries my hamstrings like doms for days and my quads are define with the spin/run

I tend to only stick to a week of high rep and metabolic stuff because I really like the heavy lifting but I know the need to change it up

Next week if I don't change my mind LOL ( I may totally be in a different mood but also I listen to my body. I know that I needed a recovery week from heavy lifting because of bit of tendonis in my elbow. I've been wearing a support but it was starting to bother me even when I was not lifting so the recovery week which has been a fun combo of piyo and running)

Les mill pump extreme
Spin hiit
Les mill pump revolution
running and piyo
Body fit 360
Cathe high rep

wow I wrote a book :p
