Is anybody still taking their daily flax seeds?

Katerchen

Cathlete
I have been taking a serving of ground up flax seeds for two years now and I don't want to miss it anymore. It's part of my daily food intake.

I even started my dog who gets occasional seizures on flax oil and, believe it or not, it seems to help her.

I tried flax oil as a skin moisturizer because I still had dry patches after trying commercial lotions. The flax oil is really good for the skin, especially as an under eye treatment. But, it does have a strong nutty smell so I don't use it in the mornings.

Ten years ago my OBGYN told me not to use commercial lotions while pregnant because they have so many toxins in them. He recommended Olive Oil for a body oil and I now started using it again. I didn't get any stretch marks on my belly during the pregnancies, except for the pubic area which I missed greasing down.

I drink a shake with 2-3 tablespoons of freshly ground flax seed EVERY morning and probably haven't missed a morning in months and probably years. I purchased a five gallon bucket of flax seed a while ago and I've gone through it already and am on my next. The gas associated with this ended long ago and my system is used to it.

I think it's fantastic and can't recommend it highly enough. So what kind of OBGYN knows about olive oil for the body and toxins in lotion....I'm amazed, why haven't I met any of these doctors that know something about good health and staying healthy as opposed to treating diseases with drugs. (I better shut up now) Glad your enjoying your flax :7

Briee,

those doctors live in Germany!!!!He also told me not to color my hair, perm it, use hair spray etc. while pregnant. He also forbade anything with artifical sweeteners but then turned around of telling me it's OK to drink an occasional maas of beer (it's a liter) but it had to be German beer because the foreign beer has additives and preservatives in it. Microwaves were a big NO,NO, too.

I am still living by those rules because I figure that if it's not good during pregnancy it can't be that good overall.

Oh GREAT so I have to go to Germany to find a good doctor????? Next thing you'll be telling me that they actually tell you to exercise and give you an exercise prescription.....noooooo that would be in a perfect world.:7 :7 :7 right?

Briee (I'm impressed, glad you were able to find some quality OB care in Germany, here in the ole USA my husband delivered our baby at home, underwater, in the dark, in a horse trough (a very clean one).....and he told me to take flax seed through my pregnancy :) :) :).....isn't he smart!!!).

That is wonderful that you have such a practical and health-minded physician. It does sound like heaven.

I still eat flax seed, not every day, but most days. I sometimes use hemp oil instead. Just for variety. And occasional wheat germ oil, and olive oil and walnuts too!

I've been using olive oil on my skin for years, but Nancy doesn't want to hear it! }(

Hey girls,

Would any of you mind elaborating on the benefits of flax seed for me? I'm a vegetarian and don't like nuts, and rarely cook with olive oil, so I know I am not getting any healthy fats in my diet. In addition to taking flax seed oil, is it important to take Omega3's?

Thanks in advance!

Gina, the main benefits of flax seed are the omega-3 fatty acids they contain, though if you eat the ground flax seed rather than taking flax oil (which is what I would recommend), you'll also get some good fiber. As you may already know, Omega-3's are also found in walnuts, canola oil and olive oil. You can also get a vegan/vegetarian brand of omega=3 supplements (the capsule is not animal-based gelatin) from either www.veganstore.com or www.veganessentials.com . The brand name is Omega-Zen.

I put ground flax seed on my cereal and salad everyday. I have been doing this for a year. My hair is thicker, nails stronger and skin a bit better. Best yet is what it does to my GI system. Love my flax seed!:)

I'm also a veghead and my nurse recommended Barlean's Essential Women Oil. I take a tablespoon a day. It's a little pricey (Whole Foods, natural food stores) but so good for you. If you do decide to take it, make sure to mix up the stuff at the bottom real well, it settles.

btw - prior to adding the oil to my daily shake I was getting a tablespoon of flax seeds in my shake. I don't add as much flax seed now.

I started taking them each day on my cereal and salads and even got my husband into it- I noticed my skin to be a bit better. sometmes I even just eat a spoon of it- if i'm in a hurry.
