RE: iPod Gets Our Nod
We recommend an IPOD over a Zune for Several Reasons: First, an IPOD supports a TV video out resolution of 640 x 480 while a Zune only supports a TV out video resolution of 320 x 240. Thus an IPOD will currently give you a higher quality picture than a Zune will on your TV. Zune will probably eventually offer a firmware upgrade and will up their resolution to match the current IPOD, but Zune has not announced when or if this is true.
The second reason the IPOD gets our recommendation is we have had some problems with Zune’s during our testing with biggest problem being we have had one Zune that overheated and cracked the video screen while it was charging. At first we thought this was just a fluke problem with this one particular Zune, but we have since learned that many other people have had the same problem with their ZUNE and this may be a widespread problem that could result in a Zune recall. This may also be a problem isolated to one particular factory or a particular batch. We just don’t know at this point in time. Regardless, Zune is currently not offering to honor warranties to customers who experience this problem as they feel it is caused by customers who have dropped their Zune. We know this not to be the case and we hope that Zune will solve the cracking screen problem and honor customers warranties. Until they do, we suggest you buy an IPOD.
