Intrlocking mats ??

After reading all your posts on intrlocking mats and how shock absorbing they are when doing step, I went and bought a set (2 ft.x 2 ft. I should bought two sets!!) yesterday! I used them today doing RS and I was sliding all over (my floors in my livingroom are stone tiles!)>:+ I almost took a dive!!:LOL! I took my 15 # dumbells and set them on each end of the mats!!! What do you guys do to prevent the mats form sliding? I bought my mats from Costco and the name is Best-Step! What kind of mats do you all have? Did I buy the wrong mats? I appreciate your input!

Thanks again,
Belinda

Aw, Belinda--that stinks! I'm sorry yours are sliding! :( I got mine from Home Depot and my floor is concrete so they stay put on that. I think you should bring yours back. Although I don't know if mine would slip if I placed them on tile, so I probably shouldn't comment.

My DH got ours at The Sports Authority. They are called Shock Athletic interlocking gym flooring. We have ours on wood flooring and we have 4 mats going across and 8 going down, its a pretty big area because we both workout with Cathe. Maybe with more mats, you wouldn't slide.

I just read on this forum that someones step was sliding and someone mentioned some kind of tape or something so that the step doesn't move, maybe you could put that on the back of your mats or try adding a couple more, hope that helps.

I got my mats at Sam's Club. They are bright colors on one side and black on the other. At first I had them color side up and I slid all over the place! They were almost slimy! I turned them over (now they are black side up) and they are just fine, no more sliding.

ETA: I have a 12' x 20' area in my basement covered by the mats, so they are probably less likely to move because there are so many.

I have used weights on the corners of my mat area (15-20# works), but found it worked best to just buy more mats so that they are both a heavier mass (and less apt to move) and pretty much fill my floor space from front to back and on one side (so they are 'framed' by unmoving furniture, to keep them from moving).

RE: Interlocking mats ??

I use 20 pound weights on two corners, but my mats are on concrete too. I found that just one layer didn't help much. I was replacing my sneakers every 4 months because my feet hurt even though I used the mats. A second layer of mats helped immensely.

The hardware stores also sell sticky mats. They are in the carpet department. They keep throw rigs from slipping on a wood floor.

RE: Interlocking mats ??

I got the coolest workout mats I've ever seen....at the Tractor Supply store!

They are a heavy, black rubber, about 1/2 or 3/4" thickness and have patterned holes for better shock absorbing.
I put one layer of the fitted mats lots of ya'll have. This is over concrete and it isn't too springy...just right, really.

I went back to the TS to get more and of course, they were out and I would have to order more. They are a tad expensive but soooo worth it.
And they are quite heavy,too.

Belinda, I second the sticky mat for carpets.

Hugs, Belinda....B I G hugs, girlie:7
How's b/baby??? Hug her for me. :7

RE: Interlocking mats ??

To keep my mats from slipping, I put a huge waffle weave mat underneath - just like the one mentioned above - the kind that go underneath throw rugs. Works fine!

And my mats are situated so that they're bordered by walls on two sides and partway on a third side, so there's really no place for them to go.

Thanks everyone for your great responses. I definitely have to try some for your great ideas!

Thanks again,
