Hi everyone. I have a question about heart rates for Cathe or anyone else who might know about this.
I have been trying to lose 10 pounds. So, after much reading and advice on HIIT, I have been trying that. With actually STOPPING structured diets (I've tried them all) and just eating RIGHT, it seems to be working, although slow. The last two weeks I have been doing interval training for my cardio workouts exclusively. Adding weight training 3 times per week also.
First question: Is it ok to do ALL HIIT? I have been having fun finding new ways to do this. Some days treadmill intervals...turn on the stereo and every other song, I up the intensity. With Cathe's DVD's and pre-mixes its been so easy to mix and match workouts. FOr example, today I did the Boot Camp cardio and legs mix...it was 30 minutes of intervals. Then I added the Pyramids, both upper and lower. So, is it ok to do cardio...all HIIT....3 to 4 days per week to step up weight loss?
Second question: Since doing alot more HIIT, I have noticed that my heart rate recovers MUCH more quickly. I am 44 and have been working out at home to tapes for 20 years. I started using a HRM about 2 years ago and it really does help with keeping my intensity up there.
However, I have noticed that I used to easily get up to around 160 which is very intense for me...now I seem to have to work harder to get that high and when I slow the intensity down....it drops really fast to around 135, sometimes lower.
Now, I realize this is probably a GOOD thing....the point of doing cardio right? But, does this mean I have to really work harder now?
How much more intense do I have to get to keep losing????
Any experts out there who can give me a good explanation, I would really appreciate it!!
Thanks.
Joni
