Injuries from not working out?

Does anyone else have this problem?
I always seem to injure myself whenever I need to take a week off.

Last week I was really sick (fever, sore throat, etc.) so I did nothing. At the end of the week I was bending down getting something and I hurt my quad muscle. Now it hurts to sit down, stand up, and go up and down the stairs.

I've done this type of thing several times before too. Gotten sick, taken time off, ended up injuring myself and then needed to take even more time off.

I am kind of frustrated with the whole situation.

Has anyone else been in this situation or know of anything to prevent it? I am almost wondering if the next time I am sick I should be going for a little walk and doing some stretching instead of sitting on the couch.

So sorry you are having a rough time of it....
I think the only thing that prevents that sort of thing is regular stretching / Yoga / Functional Fitness Workouts
I take OFF days but not weeks... I do take regular RECOVERY weeks but I still do something most days just not lift weights or do marathon cardio.
When I take OFF days in a row a find I am quite stiff upon waking which then can lead to problems. It wasnt a big issue for me until around the age of 40.... I'm pretty faithful about recovery vs rest the past few years.

Thanks for the helpful suggestions!

Looking back I can see that I usually do a lot of cardio and weightlifting with limited time spent stretching.

Do you have anything you recommend for functional fitness?

If you don't mind my asking about how much time do you devote to stretching, yoga and functional fitness?

Thanks again.
Knowing that there is something I can do to hopefully prevent this from happening to me all the time makes me feel much better. I am 33 now and I guess the workout schedule I used to have is just not doing it for me right now.

Functional: (Still looking to add to collection!)
Sculpt Sweatfest Tracey Staehl
Amplify Your Strength Kimberley Spreen ! One of my favorites!
Core Synergistics P90X
Long & Lean Yoga Baron Baptist
Yoga- Eoin Finn: Power Yoga for happiness (GREAT Hips opening segments & plenty of premixes..)
Those are my favorites right now.....

How much time?
When I'm doing a regular rotation of weights + cardio:
Yoga= 3-6x per week 30-60 minutes (usually after dinner)
Functional= 1x
Stretch= 1-3 (when I dont do yoga)

Revovery weeks I usually alternate 6 days of
Yoga
Functional
Yoga
Stretch
Functional
Yoga
OFF or Stretch

Hope some of that helps..... Hopefulyy someone else will suggest OTHER Functional Fitness DVDs so I can spend $$ with you!
