info on frequent urination

hi everyone,

i hope you dont think this is tmi, but i just came back from the urologists office and may have info for others with this problem. for years, i have had problems with frequent urination. the doctor was baffled. no weak muscles. the results of the muscle testing were the highest he ever saw, and couldnt offer me therapy to strengthen anything. we went over everything from my meds, to diet and whatever else he could think of. he could not explain the situation, and i was put on medication. it has helped.

i went tonight for a check up and to get a new script. the doctor came in and told me that he had recently been to a conference that spoke specifically about women who train the way we do. the speaker said that we are strong, but a certain muscle gets weak and therefore we get that urge and have to go. i know for me, there is no "i will go later". i always go places and the first thing i do is scope out where the bathrooms are. anyway, studies were done, and they did the muscle strengthening exercises which helped. he hopes that after i do the 6 sessions, and keep up my part, i can eventually go off the meds.

this is such a relief for me, as the last time i left the office a few months ago, i was so frustrated. not sure if there are others out there with the same problem who has done the therapy. if so, i would love to know if this will work.

thanks all,

suri

Are you talking about kiegel exercises? The "internal contractions" that the Firm was always telling us to do! They work wonders for many reasons!

The first thing I thought of when I saw your post was IC -- interstitial cystitus, which is a bladder condition that causes frequency and, also, pain. I'm glad to hear that in your case, it's a muscular thing instead!

i thought the same thing about the kiegel exercises. reinventing the wheel maybe?

i think it is that concept, but they are going to use a probe and each time you contract it will register on the computer. i will find out more next week when i start. believe me, this isnt something i am looking forward to.

This therapy is called Bio Feedback. I had to get this done after my son was born as I have a cystocele (fallen bladder). I had to purchase the probe for $50. Then it was gonna cost $150 a month for the home rental of the machine, I thought that therapist was crazy. My insurance would not pay. So I was supposed to go to their office 2-3 times a week to use the machine there, but I had baby sitter issues, my DH work schedule makes him unreliable as a baby sitter sometimes also, so I ordered a small home portable bio feedback machine called the Myself Pelvic Trainer. I ordered it from Drugstore.com . Hope this helps. All the best to you!!

I have interstitial cystitis and leakage. Thank God you don't have interstitial cystitis. I have been dealing with this since I was a teenager and I have been on every med you can think of. Now I am on three meds and have to get Botox injections into my bladder about every three months.

i thank God as well that i dont have interstitial cystitis. i do have endometriosis (and all the surgeries and problems that go with it) and i was at one point told that maybe scar tissue was causing the problem. after a while it all gets so tiring.

the doctor said that it would be 1x a wk for 6 weeks and then i am to keep up with the exercises. i dont think it will be so easy. i am going to buy the pelvic trainer as i need all the help i can get!

thanks for the help and information.
