Important Question to CATHE...

Cathlete
I was skeptical to write this message but I have to ask you for your advice. I recently was evacuated from my house due to a landslide behind my backyard (my yard is on a steep hill) and I will NEVER be able to go back to my home again (myself and six other residents were also evacuated without any notice, lets just I have been going through some stressful times – it was in all the media). I lived at my mother's apartment for two weeks (very small place), couldn't do any workouts had to "babysit my cats" so they don't make any noises at night and in the day I worked full-time. At the same time I was busy finding a home to live, well, I found a temporary semi-detached home for six months (the City is making us pay for the land taxes and the mortgage even though I will never be able to go back). The walls are thin and you can hear all the noises from the other home. My question what should I do in order to continue my workouts? I don't want the neighbours screaming at me, since I already got my plate full. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

P.S. I ordered the entire STS series but now I don't have any idea how to do the workout without making much noises (hope I'm explaining correctly)...

I'm just going to sneak in here and say how sorry I am to hear about the loss of your home. I wish for you much strength and a new, stable place to call your own. <3

I am sorry to hear about your situation. I hope things get better soon.

Some suggestions....power yoga. It makes me so sore!! And, it's quiet! You can obviously still do things like ab work and pushups are great for upper body. Depending on how much room you have you can do weights still. Also if you do a search for "Band workouts" I posted a list of all the exercises Cathe does with the band in various workouts. For cardio, unless you live on the first floor that might be a problem. However yoga does have a cardio effect as well as doing lower body weight work such as squats. Do you live in a safe enough neighborhood to walk/jog outside or even live near a high school where you can use their track or do "stairs" in the stadium? Don't lose hope!

So sorry to hear that you have lost your home.
For your current situation...
Is there a reason that you cannot ever make noise?
As someone who has lived in apartments for a while, it is expected that between the hours of 10am and 10pm(ish), that other people make noise. If you are used to working out way early in the morning when others are sleeping, then it would be inconsiderate to be loud, but during the evening when people are talking and watching TV noise should not be an issue.
If in doubt, walk over introduce yourself and start off asking if there are particular hours when some noise would be inappropriate.
I hope that your life settles down some soon,

Not sure what you are worried about that causes that much noise...if you are on a second floor and the jumping involved with some of the cardio is too loud below, you could do low impact inside, and move your higher impact to outside. Otherwise, does lifting weights really make noise? If you are worried about the sound of the video/DVD, this isn't really any different than someone else watching TV, or listening to a music CD...is that banned or inconsiderate in your current housing situation? If you really think that might be bothersome, you could keep the volume very low or even off and still do the workout with Cathe, if you've previewed it and written down which weights you use for each exercise (which most people do anyway).
Definitely don't give up on exercise though. With all the other things you have going on right now, that will be a very important way to reduce your overall stress via those beneficial endorphins.

I lived in a condo for several years, on the top floor. I purchased puzzle mats for my workout area that I would put behind the curtains when I was finished.

There are several kinds of mats...but I was sure to get the thicker ones.
