I'm going to Chicago!

Yep, my first visit to the Windy City! Going tomorrow morning on a charter bus with my 10yo DS for a school field trip...can't say I'm super excited about a 5 hour bus ride loaded with 4th and 5th graders (can you say ear plugs? I think you can!) but we have a fun-packed schedule planned.

One of their main subjects of study this year was architecture so we'll be going to the Frank Lloyd Wright home, Millenium Park, Sears Tower, couple of museums, navy pier, seeing the Blue Man Group...and then some!

DS is especially excited since he did his independent study on the Sears Tower, so it will be cool to see in person what he learned so much about.

So, I'm off to see Blue Men, eat a chicago 'dog, ride on a bus with bunches 'o' kids, view cool architecture, walk til my dogs hurt, and hopefully be able to steal away to some shops on Michigan Ave (shhh...don't tell...)

Wish me luck...and some sanity!!

When I am on a field trip, I always make a scavenger hunt for all of the kids. I make the list myself, thinking of all the things OUTSIDE of the bus that we might see along the way. I also leave a spot for them to put a detail (red flag...on a house on the side of the road, etc.)

I say there will be a prize for whoever gets the most (I put about 100 items). I also say not to be loud about what you find so you don't tip others off!

The prize is usually one candy bar or bookmark or something fairly small, but I give something to everyone who participated. I let them work with a partner, if they choose.

There really isn't a winner usually. It is just for fun for them and for a little quiet on the bus for me!! (I am a teacher)

Good luck on your trip!!

My DD went on a field trip to Chicago when she was in high school. Her agenda sounded a lot like yours. She had a great time. Have fun!

<Going, going to Chicago... Going to Chicago... Sorry but I can't take you> Oh, sorry...I was having a Robert Plant moment... Chicago is a fun town.

I acutally live in "the city" and have lived here for about 10 yrs now. In fact, I work kiddie corner from the Sears Tower. :)

If you need any suggetsions or advice about things you're looking to do, just let me know! :)

While you are there, drop in and tell Top Chef how disappointed I am in this new season!;)
Have fun and eat lots of deep dish pizza!
