I'm feeling sorry for myself...

I am on the school board in our very small town. We just voted 4-3 to not renew our coaches contract. I voted no because I don't agree with his coaching style for high school boys. The problem is there is a group of cronic complainers who came to a few meetings to speak against the coach, so now it looks like we gave into them, which is not the case at all. But now other people have lost respect for me and it just makes me feel awful. I know I shouldn't worry about what other people think, but....

Susan,
No matter what you decided, SOMEBODY wouldn't have been happy with your decision. You gotta be able to sleep at night, so all you can do is go with what you believe is right for the kids and for the community, even if what is right is not popular. It sounds like you did that. Hang in there! School board members have a tough (and often thankless) job to do! It's good of you to step up & serve.
