I'm DOOMED with bad "dog"luck!

Janie, Mishka is just beautiful! I love German Shepards :)

I agree with Cynthia (fit44) about the coconut oil. I have been giving my dogs this for about a year now and their skin conditions have all cleared up.

If they have ear issues I melt some and put it in an eye dropper and put it in their ears. Or if they have cuts, scrapes or even bee stings I put some on those as well. They love the taste of it too! You have to use the unrefined or virgin oil.

I just think this is just amazing stuff, and like Cynthia said so many wonderful benefits!

The ears are beautiful and doing what prick ears naturally do when they are learning to stand up without being taped and tormented. The fact that she has skin and ear issues make me think about yeast. (Yeast can cause ear infections too.) They may be related. Talk to your vet. If they aren't, the ear mites are pretty easy to treat with medicated ear drops.

Mites will look like dark/wet coffee grounds; yeasty ears will have brownish/red wax build up. Both are itchy.:(

Here are a few links to articles about yeast infections.
http://www.thewholedog.org/ArtYeast.html

"The main cause of yeast infections, such as Candida Albicans, is from grain-based foods and drugs, chemicals and poisons. Cooked foods anything in a can or a bag, vaccines which compromise and destroy the natural immune system, antibiotics which kill the friendly bacteria which would ordinarily fight and overwhelm the yeast, steroids that shut down the body's ability to fight back, and any and all other drugs, chemicals and poisons, including frontline, advantage, program, heartguard, etc, that compromise the immune system are all additional reasons for seeing such a preponderance of yeast infections. Yeast infections seem to be one the most under-diagnosed illnesses in the veterinary field."

If it is systematic yeast, it won't get better without changing her diet.
Would you ever consider a RAW diet? I know it's not for everyone, but it's the best thing I did for my dogs.
I'll give you a link to a GSD breeder who feeds RAW if you would like to take a peek.:)
