I'm afraid of Imax 3!

I watched this one almost completely through last night and my jaw was on the floor. Aside from the choreography of the step routines, the endurance of the crew is amazing to me. They just keep going and going and going and it doesn't appear that they piece segments together, it looks non-stop, and they maintain their energy through the whole thing. Can you all do that too????? I'm 45 and have done aerobics and running and biking since I was 20 and THOUGHT I had endurance but this Imax3 is a whole different animal! I'm not sure I can master this one!!! ;(

I tried IMAX 3 the other day and I came no where close to doing it. I ended up sitting on my step and watching. LOL!!:D Maybe someday!! (sighing very loudly)

That's exactly what I did. My husband came in and said I thought you were going to work out! (I ended up doing Cardio Kicks instead.)

yeah, it looks really scary doesn't it? But it's not impossible. The more I do it the easier it gets(of course it will never be easy!!). I actually think that IMAX2 is even harder. And even harder than IMAX2 are the Terminator workouts. I think(and I'm NO expert), the key to initially getting through the really tough ones is to modify when you need to, and to not be afraid to take quick brakes.
good luck!!:) :)

When you say that Imax 2 & Terminator are harder, do you mean choreography or endurance? I don't own either of those and I'm looking for some new workouts to order.

The first time that I put it on I was not in the mood to exercise. I intentionally put something new in to get my blood flowin' and the only thing it did was annoy me! I turned it off after the second segment and put in IMAX 2. The next time that I did it, I did a premix of the step segments only. Next time that I do it, I think that will help me to be more patient and get through it (being that I already did the step segments once already). Maybe this will help?

I have Imax3 and Hardcore Extreme. I haven't tried Imax3 by itself yet but I have done the workout on Hardcore Extreme that combines some of Imax3 and some of Low Max. I love it! Maybe that workout is easier than Imax3.

I love, love, love The Terminator. Imax extreme is great. I did the gauntlet this morning after doing Muscle Max and I'm about to fall asleep at my desk.

I got IMAX 3 as soon as it came out and I have been afaid of it this whole time. This week, I finally did it - well sort of, as good as I could. It is going to take a while until I get it right.

I LOVE IMAX3!!! :) It is really tough, but boy do I ever feel accomplished when I finish this workout. When I first started doing it, I couldn't get through the whole thing - and you shouldn't expect to either, at first. Just do the best you can, and it will get better with time. I also started doing it without a step - it helped me get the hang of the step combos because there wasn't a step bench in the way to trip me! ;) They step combos are tricky because Cathe doesn't build them up like she does in other DVDs. But after a few times, I did get the hang of them. And the blasts are really intense - I used to have to modify ALL of them, but now I can do all of them as is, except for a couple. Oh, and I am now using a step bench - but only at 4". Not ready to move to 6" anytime real soon. :p

It is soooooo good to see I am not the only one! I have had the Hardcore series for a while and have yet to try any of them. I have watched them - but then resort to my tried and true workouts. I guess I feel that if I don't finish a workout (which I know I won't for a few times) then I "really" haven't worked out. Does this make sense? I would really love to hear from some of you that have been doing this series for a while how many times it took until you finished an entire w/o or until you felt comfortable with it - particurally IMAX 3.

I have it but haven't done it yet. I have done parts of it on Hardcore Extreme where they piece together IMAX3 with circuit training. They are difficult routines but not impossible. I plan on doing the whole thing at some point.

"I also started doing it without a step - it helped me get the hang of the step combos because there wasn't a step bench in the way to trip me!"

That's a great idea!!! I will try that. :)

I have done Imax 3 multiple times all the way through. I can't say that I do every last rep of every blast & sometimes I need a tad longer break. I did do it once w/ the same breaks though. The choreography is harder than Imax2, IMO, but definitely doable. I watched it once all the way through just to see what I was up against. If you want a really supercharged workout in a shorter time, just do the blasts - you might have to find your heart under the couch though ;)

I've watched it 4 times and I can't get my brain around the step portions. I have a hard time with complicated step moves. I know I could do the blasts (with modifications), but I get so frustrated with really complex choreo. Even in IMAX 2 I sometimes screw up the steps because ot's so fast. Don't know if I'll ever attempt 3.

Dari Ann:

oh pooh! Don't you worry about it at all honey!

Listen, you just put on the DVD and start. Do what you can. If Cathe does a move you don't like, you just tell her "no way am I doin' that!" and then move right along to the next bit. If she goes right into the next cardio section while you are still trying to get your breath, just pause her, take your drinks amd carry on when you are ready. if you only get half of it done in one day, so waht, who cares?!?! No-one's going to know. Gradually, as you get fitter, you add another interval on until you can do more. And if you never make it past a certain point, I reckon that's OK too.

You don't even have to do Imax 3 if you don't want to. There's no rule says you MUST DO IT!!! Pooh to that as well. It 'aint everyone's cup of tea.

If you do decide to do it, try it on the day after a rest, when you'll have more pep in your step. Set yourself up for success, not failure. And if it's the steps of the cardio sections that's getting to you, then certainly go through all the step sections on their own learning it, then add the blasts in later.

Try it: don't sweat it!

I do IMAX 3, but with LOTS of modifications (my version of the "jump all the way down the board, then sideways, etc. looks nowhere like the original move!). I find the endurance of theh crew impressive, but I have no interest in doing the workout the way it is. I see no need for that amount of impact. I enjoy "my" version of the workout, and it's effective and intense enough for me (without ruining my knees). After I figured out that I can modify IMAXs quite a bit to reduce impact and remove torque, I reaqujred IMAX2 (which I modify about 1/4 of) and enjoy that one as well.

Don't be scared! There have been lots of tips given so far, and any one of them would be helpful - put them all together, and you're ready for some excitement!! Really - I've done it a few times - it took 2 hours the first time because I kept rewinding the step parts until I got them :) But, wow, is it fun! I had to put it aside a few weeks ago - I'd only been able to do it a few times before the thrill factor was far outweighed by the nausea factor (impact exercise and my stomach are apparently not compatible at this point) I hope you make friends with this one, because it's really worth it.

If you don't though, don't sweat it! There are plenty of other fun workouts and you can always use this one to 'lend' to friends who make fun of your home workout tapes }(

Imax 3 has become my newest favorite workout. I absolutely love. Yes, the step choreography is a little confusing at first but it is so much fun once you get it down. On the weekends when I have more time to work out, I put in my new workout dvd and start right in. When something doesn't flow, I just repeat it until I get it. It took me an hour and half the first time I did Imax 3. You can get it too! It is quite fun once you get the steps.

Don't give up, you can do this!

Diana

I was afraid of it when I viewed it the first time, once I tried it, it is doable, the more you do it, the easier it becomes, embraced the challenge, don't fear it, just like Cathe says. I did it all the way through the first time, it was tough but I felt proud.

I guess I'm different from a lot of you in that I have to perform the moves as I learn them. I can't sit there & watch them over & over without actually doing them because I know darn well, I'll forget & trip up.

Imax 3 IS HARDER than Imax 2. Her step combos are too short & the recovery times are almost nonexistent. But like several others have mentioned, there is nothing wrong with modifications.

Actually, the first time I did this workout I stopped at Interval 8 or 9, and I, never quit early on a workout. I have gotten better on the choreography, but I still can't get a few steps. Namely, the Rock-press with the ball-change or the 6-count mambo. I always end up on the wrong side of the step at least twice. I, however, just keep on moving. I'll get them, eventually. So I hope, you don't give up. You'll be amazed on how much you can really do each & every time you do something new. You will be so proud.

Once again, modifications are totally acceptable. Eventually, your hard work & commitment will pay off.
