I'm a newby

Hello ~
I'm fairly new to the forum (a few weeks), but I haven't had much time to look through past discussions to find an answer to my question. I've been watching (yes, watching, not yet doing) Cathe for a few months on FitTV and I think I'm ready to make my first Cathe purchase.

However, there are too many to choose from. I've watched the DVD clips and checked the "clearance rack", but I still can't decide. If I wasn't short on funds, I'd buy them all. At this point, I consider myself an intermediate but I think I would prefer to purchase an advanced video/DVD. So for now can someone suggest one good step video and one strength video that will get me started?

Also, is there some sort of legend to help me with the abbreviations you guys use? ie. DOMS, ME, etc. (I'm such a dork!)

BTW, I'm totally impressed with the dedication and support you show one another.

Thanks!

Hey Weezy,

Welcome! glad you are here! We have a lot of fun with this.
The legend is posted I think in the Open discussion, try a search.
I can't remember exactly where it is..sorry =(
Some videos are pretty challenging. Cathe workouts are really fantastic and they will really challenge you. Some of my fav's are:

For step try:
Imax2 w/cardio and weights or
LowMax (one of my favs)

For muscle try:
Pyramid Upper body/lower body or
Muscle Max

Those are just a few of my favs in my opinion.

Good luck and let us know what you decide!

Hi and welcome to the Open forum of Cathe's site.

Hummm a good weight workout to start out with is Power Hour if you want endurance full body workout. I started out with this one myself. If you like strength training or heavier weights then I suggest the Pyramids to start with. As for stepping, I don't do much stepping here lately but I really like the Rhythmic Step, Interval Max 1 and Maximum Intensity Cardio DVD.

As for abbreviations let's see:

DOMS= Delayed onset muscle soreness
ME= Muscle Endurance
PH= Power Hour
S&H= Slow and Heavy series
PS= Pure Strength series with PSSL&A Pure strength strong legs and abs, PSBB&A=Pure Strength Back, Biceps and Abs, PSCS&T= Pure Strength Chest, shoulders and triceps.
MIS= Maximum Intensity Strength
MIC= Maximum Intensity Cardio
RS= Rhythmic Step
IMAX 1,or 2= Interval Max 1 or 2
LM= Low Max
GS= Gym style series
CK= Cardio Kicks
CM= Circuit Max
KPC= Kick, Punch and Crunch
KM= Kick Max
HSC= High Step Challenge

and a whole bunch more that I can't think of at the moment but that will get you started.

Again welcome.

Welcome!

Do you have any step experience at all? What level exerciser are you?

You might want to start with Basic Step and Body Fusion, or Low Impact Step and the sculpting dvd that goes with that. Cathe is fantastic and you will soon be addicted and own more of her workouts than you can imagine!

Shelly..I forgot about LowImpact Step..that is a great one to start with to learn Cathe's steps and also Basic step too. The sculpting DVD with LowImpact is really good. I did that DVD right after I had DD and it helped jump start the getting back in shape process.

Welcome! You won't be a newby long.

I started with the basic step and I thought that was a good thing! My first weight workout was Muscle Max (MM) and then I quickly progressed to LOMAX.
I think those are some good ones to start with. Good luck deciding.

Welcome Weezy:)

Eveyone's already given you great suggestions, so I just wanted to greet you. I'm virtually useless in making up my own mind much less helping someone else, but the other Catheites here are well-versed and will see you through your initial purchase.

Have fun with Cathe.:)

Hi, Weezy!
Welcome to the Forums.

Whenever you don't understand an abbreviation, just ask.

You're not a dork, just don't get the 'lingo' yet. It's just something you pick up the more you are on the forum.

Welcome, once you get hooked there is no going back:) :* :7

My first was IMAX2 and Cardio & Weights. I also love Muscle Endurance. Once you are working out to Cathe you wouldn't sit and watch anymore. Right Girls!!!

Hi WEEZY and welcome to the group!
I started out with Muscle Endurance simply because that's the workout that came with the Step I purchased. That's how I was first introduced to Cathe so that was definately a good purchase for me! If I were you I would just browse the workouts on this website and pick what looks most intriguing to YOU! Eventually you will just keep adding to your collection because it is so very addicting! Have fun!

Welcome. glad you are joining the cathe addicts group. We meet daily and you can count on all of us to be your support. Everone here gets a gold star I have been cathe-ing for 120 days straight. I am committed to this recovery. Can't think of anyone else that can whip me into shape.

Welcome!

If you think you want only advanced workouts, I would suggest Low Max and either Muscle Max or Muscle Endurance. I started out with the Classics dvd to learn some of Cathe's steps, but I don't use it much anymore. I think Cathe spends more time breaking down the steps in Low Max compared to other videos, so that is good to start with, but it is still advanced. You also get a good leg workout too! I would suggest one of the muscle endurance total body workouts so that you don't have to spend some much money buying 3 dvds for a split workout. Once you get hooked, you will want to save up for the rest later anyway though!

Thanks to all for your expertise! OK, I did it!!! I just ordered the Intensity Series Bundle which includes IMAX 2 + Cardio & Weights, Boot Camp + ME, and Pyramid Upper & Lower body. I know I said I was short on funds but I couldn't help myself. I'll keep you posted on my progress.

Thx again!!

Weezy
