I'm a mom!

Hello ladies!

I'm a mom to a beautiful girl! Maisie Lynn was born Sunday, June 27 at 7:34pm. She was 7lb 15oz and 21" long.

All I can say right now is that the whole experience is nothing like I imagined. Here is my story...

My labor began Sunday morning, June 27 at 5:30am - I got up to go pee...like I always do due to baby hogging all the room ;) I went back to bed and felt like I was leaking urine cause my panties were soaked, so, I went back to the bathroom to try going again...well, this happened three times before I realized that something was up...I finally returned to bed with a pen & paper & a watch because I started feeling crampy. My first contractions were 8 minutes apart. I gracefully woke my hubby with one big full body shake - ladies he was so incredibly sweet and excited. He immediately jumped out of bed and was ready to get this started.
Well, contractions continued at this pace for a few hours and they were comfortable, so, I went to church. About 10am they were about 4 minutes apart and I asked hubby to take me home because they were getting more intense and closer together. I called the doctor then and explained that we thought that my water had broken, but, was not sure... I've never done this before to know for sure! ;)
We got to the hospital about 11:30--after grabbing a hamburger and shake from McDonalds. Once we got there they tested for amniotic fluid leak and it was positive. I also got an exam and was dilated to 2cm. They didn't seem to want to admit me until I walked the halls for an hour to see if I had made any progress. After the hour passed I was starting to find myself having to concentrate on the contractions. Another exam showed I was 3cm and I was admitted. About this time I threw up my McDonalds lunch. (but, let me tell you ladies it was worth it -- I was starving on the way into the hospital!)
Another hour or two later (time passed so quickly) and I was 6cm and feeling everything and my only comfort was knowing I could get an epidural. I got the epidural and it only worked on my right side and my contractions at this point were pretty intense and about 2 minutes apart. Finally, the anesthesiologist got my left side numbed up and I was a happy camper. My cervix was then checked - I was 10cm and ready to push. I ended up pushing for 2 1/2 hours. Towards the end I finally understood how I was suppose to be pushing - some things you just have to experience and try.
Maisie was born with the cord around her head -- I know this is fairly common but, she came out purple and even after suctioning her for a little bit, she barely moved or cried. I was able to hold her briefly, before they took her to the nursery for about 2 1/2 hours to get her lungs and everything else cleaned out. Finally, she was brought back to the room and I was able to hold and cuddle and love her. What a happy moment! She is so adorable!

Now, Maisie is 9 days old. We had a doctor's appointment today and she is doing great. When we left the hospital she was 7lbs 11oz -- today, she was 8lbs 8oz. I'm nursing her and it must be doing something right. :)

A huge thanks to all the ladies in the pregnancy check-in for checking on me this past week and for all your motivation and support during the past 9 months. I would not have continued my workouts without you. I look forward to joining the post-partum check-in in a few more weeks.

Take care!

Christy,
Congratulations on your baby girl. We look foward to hearing from you in the postpartum checkin.
I am glad to know, I was not the only one clueless about my water breaking. When mine broke, i too thought I'd peed on myself.

Oh, Christy - Congratulations! Isn't being a mommy the most amazing experience in the world? I am so happy for you both.

Take care, and I look forward to chatting with you again on the post pardum check-ins once my little one is born.

Maisie is just beautiful!!! Thank you so much for sharing! All the pictures are great! I am guessing that you had just delivered in Image 30 based on the blood pressure cuff, baby in the hat, gloved nurse... and I have to tell you... you don't look like you just delivered.... you look GREAT!!!! But, you look great in all the pics! Enjoy that baby!
