We redid our kitchen last year with IKEA cabinets. I may be biased because I grew up with IKEA kitchens (having lived in Sweden and Germany).
Obviously, they have different styles and qualities, I found IKEA kitchens cabinets to be extremely durable. They are really easy to install, you might want to get the DVD at IKEA that gives you step-by-step guidelines as to "How to install". I would get that BEFORE you order the kitchen, so you can decide if you want to install them yourself (my husband and I did the installation ourselves and found it fairly easy). Otherwise, IKEA can refer you to professionals who can do the installation.
We chose the Adel birch cabinets and I just LOVE my new kitchen. So far it has withstood a lot of abuse in my house, I have two boys (6 and 9 years), two large dogs, 3 cats and a messy husband (I guess you get the picture).
I think IKEA cabinets are a good choice, certainly when I also take my overall savings into consideration. We redid the whole kitchen with new flooring, cabinets, appliances and granite countertops, I ended up paying around $12,000 for the whole thing, whereas the Great Indoors, Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. gave quotes between $ 22,000 and $ 31,000 for a similar quality kitchen.
Good luck with your new kitchen!
