If you couldn't do step anymore what would you do?

I'm having arch problems and anticipate the order to stop doing step for awhile. What/Who can I switch to? Criteria...home workouts only, going to a gym/pool not an option.

Thanks!

Many people rave about Christi Taylor's hi/lo workouts. I've had a bit of experience with her workouts, and they are less intense than Cathe's, but I can't say whether or not they would aggravate your arch problem. Or maybe kickboxing without any of the high-impact moves? KPC could still give you a good workout, even without jumping or hopping.

I hope your arch problem rectifies itself soon!

My first pick would be kickboxing if that doesn't bother your arches. Is that an option? Otherwise what about biking? Do you have a bike or treadmill? Another option for you might be rebounding.

What limitations does the arch problem present? Does it only prevent you from stepping?

Jo

Right now, stepping and jumping (like with KPC) seem to aggravate it. Today was the first day that I had problems outside of my workout. I've been icing tonight so I hope that'll help. Not sure if I will workout tomorrow. Don't really know a lot more...could take awhile to get into the podiatrist.

Please keep the ideas coming!

If I couldn't do step anymore, I would switch to riding a bike. Of course, now that the weather is getting bad, I would need a stationary bike - but it's really the only other exercise I enjoy besides aerobics.

My right hip and knee are shot, the orthopedic surgeon said I'm too young to do surgery and told me to give up running. He said swimming would be the best exercise.

I gave up running, I'm doing step. I know, even feigned ignorance is bliss.

Sue, where exactly is your pain? You could have Plantar facitis (sp?) which is what I have. It can start with a pain near the arch but more toward the heel. It feels like arch pain. I rode my bike on a trainer during my non-step workouts, also did some kickboxing. But mostly I weight lifted, he gave me permission to do non cardio workouts so I did a mostly weight lifting rotation I found and it worked for me. I now have orthotics and along with an anti-inflammatory can work out like I used to again.

I hope you find the answer and see a doctor if it doesn't get better soon.:)

I don't do step much at all anymore. I prefer kickboxing.

Other options: hi-low, spinning (if you have a bike or a trainer), rebounding.
