There was also a similar question on "Ask Cathe", so I copied my answer and placed it in here. I think this is information people would like to hear.
It depends on your body type. There are 3 types of bodies, most all of us are a combination of the three. I'm mostly a Endomorph. This body type responds greatly to cardio, and best done 5 to 6 times a week. Can even benefit more, with 7 days.
Mesomorph, doesn't matter what they eat or how they train, they lose body fat and gain muscle anyway.
Ectomorph tend to be ripped light weight and middle weights. They tend to stay very lean.
Also I think, after 8 weeks of demanding rotations, a recovery week might be in order. During that week do nothing, or light weights or, yoga, stretches, walking....then go back to another 8 weeks of rotations, only this time different exercises for muscle groups to achieve the same goals.
Have a great day,
Janie
The idea is to die young as late as possible.
