Ideas on Portable Protein Shakes?!

Hello everyone!

I'm hoping you insightful folks can give me your suggestions on a good thermos / cooler. My 3pm snack has been oatmeal with a tablespoon of sugar free strawberry preserves for a while now and I'm trying to cut back on carbs so I'd really like to start packing an afternoon protein shake. Problem is, my (cheapo) boss doesn't have a refrigerator in here so I bring my lunch in an insulated bag. Not sure that my soy milk would stay cool long enough, especially in the Texas heat! I really dislike making my shakes with water so I just need some ideas on how to keep my milk cold for 8 hours! Also, since I don't have my blender handy here at work, is there a shaker that someone can recommend? Thanks so much!!

Hello. I actually bought from Target one of those thermos brand stainless steel, hot/cold things. I just put all the ingredients in my blender the night before, place in the refridgerator minus the protien powder-
here is my usual receipe
1/4 cup passion fruit juice
1/4 vanila soy milk
1/4 guava juice
1/3 cup frozen mango chunks
1 small banana
1/4 cup lowfat Wally organic vanilla yogurt
chunk of plain silky tofu
1 TBL flax seed oil
1 TBL womens essential oils
1 TBL wheat germ
I know it sounds like a lot, and you get a nice large serving but it tastes super yummy. Sometimes I'll add coconut oil. It's my tropical fruit smoothie and since it has a lot of ingredients I prep it the night before.
Then in the morning I put the whey protien powder in give it a zap and put it in my thermos. It stays cold for up to 6 hours and if I use it for coffee my coffee stays hot for up to 8 hours. I just sip on it while working for my snack. It keeps me from snacking on junk, keeps me full and will even suffice for a meal.

Janie that sounds so delicious! I have definitely made a note to try it! My shakes usually just consist of BSN protein powder with either silk light vanilla soy or silk light chocolate soy and don't get me wrong, they're just as yummy! (BSN chocolate fudge pudding & chocolate soy.. heavenly!) I usually throw in frozen fruit in the morning.

I'm going to try and look for a good thermos that will stay nice and cool until 3pm. (perhaps if I put the thermos inside my insulated bag) Oh the joys of portable food!
