I was going to grumble, but no

I was going to grumble about my normal commute being 1hr 15 mins and turning into 3 1/2 hours with the snow last night, but thanks to the anti wah-wah thread, I won't. So I thought about it last night and didn't post it. Why?

Because another million and however many people were just as stuck as I was

Because some of them I'm sure were on the way to hospitals or funerals

Because some of them had lost their jobs and were making that commute for the last time

Because everyone was being nice and good natured and letting people switch lanes, etc

Because the poor snow plow guys were out all night and still are and will be out tonight, too (DH included)

Because some of them were going home to cold, empty houses, and I had a family waiting for me

Because I got home with me and the car in one piece, and I know some people didn't

Because the car was warm and the radio was playing good tunes - no problems!!!

Great post Nan and all so very true. It can be tough to find the good in a situation when you are annoyed. Good for you for finding it!:)

Great post! Whenever I am stuck in a traffic jam caused by an accident, I always think that those of us stuck for several hours have it much, much, better than the poor soul that had the accident in the first place.

Great awareness Nan! Sometimes it's much easier to take the path of negativity. You can always turn a negative situation into a positive one. It's just takes a little more effort.

>Your avatar is breathtaking, Nan! Wish I could send you some
>warmth...:)

Thanks, it's from our garden last summer. I will send DH the compliments as he is the gardener.

Now this is the way the forum should be! Thanks to you and Cathy for starting these positive threads. I come here everyday and mostly lurk...I will tell you that the things that I read (good and bad) I seem to let affect ME in my everyday life. Silly as that sounds. So thanks you guys for making me appreciate all the things I have and to try and learn not to focus on the little, nit picky, inconveniences that come up!

Nan..I agree with you 100%. It's difficult to stay positive when tough situations come up (snowstorms and driving x(). My DH is a fireman and is outside in this frigid weather so I often feel guilty when I'm at home warm and he's out there helping those that are less fortunate. Keeps my priorities in check ;-)

I love your avatar as well..if you check out my picturetrail I have an album full of my garden pics. I'm just itching for warm weather!!

Take Care!

My 17 year old is about to get her license and I've told her things along the same lines... for example, the jerk who cut her off might be on their way home or to the hospital because a loved one died.

It's hard to tell what's going on with people when we're on the road. I've been trying to err on the side of compassion and learning to dial down the anger.

Thanks for sharing!

That doesn't sound silly to me at all. Negativity has a way of spreading. Don't get me wrong -- we all gotta vent at times -- but I noticed not long ago that I had fallen into the habit of internalizing the toxic energy and comments of others around me (in particular, one of my close friends who seemed to be constantly griping), and I decided I needed to block that out. I still listen, but I make a more conscious effort not to pick it up.
