I want to wear a bikini ...darn it!!!

I am a Cathe devotee of 2 years and have been working out since forever. I had one toned bod until I had kids and my abs have never been the same. I love the new 2 piece bathing suit styles because I hate one piece bathing suits. I have been wearing tankinis which I love but would love to pull a "Demi Moore" and wear a bikini. It is soooo frustrating because I am now 48 and realize my days of having an attractive body are numbered. Now I realize Demi had plastic surgery to attain that body so that makes it seem even more unattainable. I went to Kohl's yesterday and they had a huge swimsuit sale. I bought the cutest bikini, nice because you buy the top and bottom separately. The question is, will I ever be able to wear it? Maybe I could just lay in it by the pool at my health club and when I get up to walk around cover up. I think I'm having a midlife bikini crisis:)Can anyone relate?

I'm 46, and with me, it's my outer thigh area. My stomach is as flat as can be, but I'm convinced I must resign myself to a handful of jiggly fat below each buttock. So.... I buy skimpy tops and lowcut spandex bike shorts. Instant "butt-lift". No problemo.

At this point I am never going to be a runway model anyway, so I am just cutting my losses and wearing my own little 2 piece style. I could also wear board shorts and a skimpy top, but I don't need to buy a new bathing suit yet.

How about buying a scarf wrap to match your bikini? Then you can be covered a bit more when you feel like it, without having to cover up all the time.

If you bought a bikini that fits now, I say wear it.

Don't care about what might other people think. Other people's opinion in this regard really do not matter, IMHO.

Everybody going to the beach have the same fears, only a few are actually comfortable in a bikini. No one looks like the girls you see in SI Swimmsuit Issue.

Life is really too short to worry about what other people think.

My husband and I went to Rehoboth at the beginning of the summer and there were LOTS of women who did not look like they did Cathe workouts and were wearing bikinis.

I say go for it - and forget what the others think.;-)

If you'd like a guy's opinion I say wear it as long as you are comfortable. I am here to say that confidence has alot to do with it. If you are wearing a bikini and you feel and look confident then that will show through to others. Confidence is a very sexy attribute. Besides you probably are in great shape anyway since you workout with Cathe's videos. So go 4 it!!

I can totally relate! Here's my answer--I cleaned up my eating & dropped 10 lbs this summer. I wear my bikini even though I still could lose to lose another 10. My belly is my problem area as well.

As for Demi--While I agree she looks incredible for a 40 year old mother of 2, that's not all exercise. She's had a considerable amount of surgery in addition to her exercise. She's admitted to breast implants & lipo. Not the way I want to get the body of my dreams.

The Demi Moore story makes me feel all "grrrrrrrr" because I remember reading her about her exercise regime and how hard she worked out to get in shape. I used to admire and respect her for that and for how hard she worked, then I found out that she had liposuction!! Bah.

Who cares about Demi anyway? Look at Cathe, she's had two children and she's in fantastic shape. Even though I'm some distance from my goal shape, I'm actually checking out bikinis for the first time in my whole life! Even when I was in great shape, I never felt confident enough to even look at bikinis in the stores. Cathe's workouts are helping to give me the body confidence, I've always missed.

Don't worry about how you look - it's about how you feel. If you feel great, you look great and that's a fact :)

I have to put in my little bit of encouragement here, because I don't think you should miss out on doing what you really want to do. I have spent the last month in Italy. My family lives in the Naples area, and the beach is a HUGE part of life there. You only have to be there for a day to realize how comfortable and confident most of the women (and men) are in their skin. The culture is different there, too. NOBODY is into fitness, though the eating habits are fantastic. There are some young women who are absolutely gorgeous, but most of the women, men, and children are chubby. Not fat, but chubby. And very happy about it. All women wear bikinis. All men wear speedos. And none of them have perfect, sleek bodies. Even on the streets, revealing clothes are the norm, regardless of what their body looks like. And I think it is much more comoforting to see an overweight woman wearing a bikini than one wearing long jeans and an over-sized T-shirt. Being around this culture made me much more comfortable with myself. The beach was fun like it's supposd to be!!

Enjoy the bikini and be proud of what you are!!!!!!!!!

I'm going to go for it!! Thanks for all your encouraging comments. With the help of some self tanner, I look pretty good...Plus Sara..I'm Italian! Lisa

I will be 49 in October and I just did a bikini photoshoot yesterday --

It takes a very careful diet and LOTS of workouts --

I lost 35 pounds after discontinuing some medication about 3 years ago -- I dropped from a size 12 to a size 2 to 4 petite.

I had a lot of toning to do -- I mean a LOT from losing that much weight.

I think Cathe's core training is the BEST for getting flat abs or at the very least smaller abs.

Did you know some men prefer a little bit of a tummy? I didn't know this, but it is true.

Bettie Page even had a little bit of tummy.

I say stand up and be proud because if you are doing Cathe you are one of the elite anyway and I bet if you looked around, you would see very few 48 year old women or even younger women who look as good as you.

I think sometimes we are just too hard on ourselves.

I would attach a photo of myself in my bikini, but I don't know how...I am very white and have no tan, but at least the bikini is black!

Edited this in: I just read everybody's response and they are so right about it all. I would never have lipo or implants -- Demi Moore is no role model anyway. Like that Nicole Kidman smoking -- what a role model -- blah on Hollywood!

Cathe says it best in IMAX: "Be Proud Because You Look So Good" or words to that effect.

So don't worry about what anybody else thinks -- my university is in Ft. Lauderdale and I see all body types -- it's all in the way you feel about yourself.

I daresay you look GREAT -- especially if you are working out regularly to Cathe!

And please don't think your days of having an attractive body are numbered -- with weights and cardio and what is known now about aging, we are not the same as our mothers and grandmothers --

And think about this -- some 20 year olds never have an attractive body in the first place......

And if you have your health and vitality, you have everything!

I just read in one of my fitness mags that some pregnant stars have labor induced a month early so their abs don't stretch as much! Madonna is one on the list. I don't recall the others. I was appalled that someone would do that.

THAT is CHILD ABUSE!

That is Vanity carried to the extreme!

To tamper with another human being's life and birth is completely immoral.

I simply can't believe what some people will do to "look good"

I am losing respect for these "stars" -- Demi, Nicole Kidman (madame tobacco), and now Madonna?

I always looked up to Madonna for her great body, but to induce labor early in the name of vanity -- I would think that would be illegal!

Of course, I guess a doctor can write it up as anything....as though it is "medically" necessary.

That's absolutely barbaric and I hope that any Doctor's who induce labour for reasons of vanity are struck off and banned for life. I really hope that it this is no more than a horrible rumour.

I found the article, in FitnessRX. Quote:
"Still, some celebs can't risk [CAN'T?] the extra abdominal stretching and therefore have labor induced up to a month early. Who did this, you ask? Elizabeth Hurley, Madonna, Claudia Schiffer and Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice)". The info was taken from "W magazine".

Edited to get rid of spazzy spelling!

And can you believe it says some celebs "CAN'T risk the extra abdominal stretching? Since when have we even seen Elizabeth Hurley's abs?

That's extraordinary. It's bad enough that a Doctor would do something that unethical but Mothers? I'm stunned. Now that I've had time to think about it, I'd like to see those Doctors jailed. That's worse - way worse - than say, having liposuction and saying it was all exercise and/or healthy eating.

Quite frankly, I'd much prefer them to ADMIT to their selfishness and just opt to NOT have children. x( x( x( x(
