I Want a Dog!

Westies

All the little dogs mentioned above are cute! I have a West Highland Terrier and love her, but I do get jealous when I see other puppies like Malteses, even though they're all similar.

Pros of a Westie:
Cute, small, doesn't shed much if you get it groomed occasionally, not a "yippie" dog, VERY lovable, will follow you around, loves cuddling, a watch dog, plays with toys a lot, loves car rides, looking out the window and playing.

Cons:
we never trained ours so she barks when she shouldn't and doesn't come very well (but if you train yours, I'm sure it'd be fine)

Good luck- dogs make great friends!

K60- you took the words right out of my mouth, also the local animal shelters are a great source to find a dog as well. Karen

My poochies fit ALMOST all of your criteria. I have 2 adorable, loving pugs, and they are great with kids, friendly, 'house' dogs (don't need a lot of walking), great city dogs. Excellent companions. I'm in love, what more can I say. But they shed like mad. Why don't you take the pet compatibility quiz at www.purina.com? There is a questionnaire on the site which helps you to find the perfect breed and temperament for your lifestyle.

RE: Stacy, re: Bichon

Hi, Kathy,

What a little character your Eddie is! Mine gives me that same look when he's begging for something that I don't want to give him. If I try to pet him instead, he impatiently bobs his head out from under my hand and starts with the look again. It's too funny. But he makes up for it when we're outside walking, and every few minutes he turns and looks at me and gives me a big smile.

I notice you describe yours in basically the same way I do: I've told people he's the world's best behaved toddler who'll always love his mommy.

Hi Audrey!

I think my fluff and yours were siblings. :) Eddie does that exact thing -- removes his head from under my hand and re-focuses on me like "Ah- HEM, I didn't ASK to be petted, I'm WAITING for FOOD...." And I love your description -- so accurate, except that for my big furry boy I'd leave out "best- behaved" -- he's just a PERPETUAL toddler who'll always love his mommy! :)
