i think i injured my chest or back

i started my STS meso 1, 5 weeks ago. i have just finished my recovery week. i am due to start meso 2 tomorrow morning.

after week 3, i noticed a terrible pain in my back, but its like it goes through to my chest on my right side. I took it easy for the weekend thinking that by monday it would be alright. i put the hot/cold patches on and it helped, but the pain was still there, just not as bad.

In hindsight by this time I was realizing that i first felt a weird kind of achey sort of pain while i was doing the push ups the last time. So, since the chest work is the first disc of every week, i skipped monday and gave myself one more day and used more of those patches. tuesday morning, i started back on to week 4. i did the chest work including more push ups. by that night, i was in terrible pain again. i knew that this was what it was. i could not do my tricep work on wednesday. i ended up skipping the tricep disc altogether in week 4. i did do the leg work on friday since its no upper body. i felt like i cheated by skipping a disc and still do.

now, i still feel the pain in my right side after my week off somewhere between my back and my chest and i don't know if i should start meso 2 or not in the morning. i know that if im hurt that i should never continue. i hate to stop sts for now though if its only the push ups that are bothering me.

my question is, would sts still be effective enough if i cut back on the push-ups and not do some of the sets? all of the other work such as chest flys are great and i've never even felt strain at all doing them. somthing about those push ups though just are killer and there are really alot of them in each chest work dvd. i do find that my endurance for them has increased dramatically after just doing the first 3 weeks of sts. i can make my football player son feel like a little girl if he tries to keep up with me doing push ups.

should i continue my sts on to meso 2 and cut the push ups back some, or should i just quit and re-start from meso 1 after a couple of more weeks? i really don't want to do the latter, but i will if i really need to. i guess i could go back to my regular step aerobics routine.

Your problem is not so much a problem right now: meso 2 has nary a push up in it! I think there's a short set somewhere in week 3 or 4 (not sure, though), but otherwise, it's all barbell bench presses & dumbbell flies for the chest. So, you're in luck!

i have not even looked at meso 2 yet, but thats awesome that it has no push-ups!

my chest does not hurt at all while doing my workouts, i only felt a strain in the area in week 3. its always a few hours later that i really feel it. the other chest work does not bother me. those push ups are just killer for me. they are something that i was never really even able to do before i started doing cathes workouts more than 3 years ago. since the sts though, i can really do alot more. i have gone from a chest size 37 to a 32 in the last couple of years. its a very dramatic change. i know its due to the push-ups mostly and i've never felt such a strain like this before sts. i found that the meso 1 just might have been a bit excessive with the push-ups.

i feel much better than i did last week, and every day it gets better. i really just feel that one muscle area when i move a certain way. i believe that i will go on and start meso 2 tomorrow.

First off I'm sorry you're injured. That sucks!!
As far as skipping the pushups...I skip all chest work all the time. I have implants and my doctor does not want me doing any chest work. I don't think there would be a problem skipping for a while. Just start off slow when you do go back to doing them.
Hope you feel better soon.
