I think about food more when I keep a food diary

I have kept a food journal consistently for about 2 years with absolutely no results other than the time consumption it took up...
I decided to try something new, "intuitive eating"...WoW, who would have guessed that I could actually trust my own instincts...

I've found exercising in the morning, prevents stress and depression throughout the day, (never happens in the evening anyways), and eating intuitively was really working for me. I cleared my kitchen of any food "clues" like cookbooks, food bowls, pasta canisters, ect. and it seemed to work.

As long as I wasn't thinking about it I was alright.

I regressed when I got anxious and didn't think I was losing fast enough, although I really was, 1-2 lbs a week, completely normal, but man I get impatient, so I started keeping a food diary again, out of probably familarity. I really learned something from that diary, it isn't for me. I ate more than ever as it constantly weighed on my thoughts, so of course I felt like &#^$...

People say food journals are good, and I guess they make some aware more than others. I just never realized the affect they had on me until I started it again.

Just wanted to share. I am putting the darned journal away and will start my workout first thing in the morning again.

Go figure something so simple could work for me...

The childrens saying, "I think I can, I think I can", has an incredible amount of truth...it's actually pretty scarey it's that simple...

Again, I just needed to share...

Congrats on finding something that works. I never kept a journal, but after doing BFL, got in the habit of planning my six meals ahead of time. This usually works for me, but on the other hand, I think it makes me think about food and eating too much. I do not need any assistance with that! I wish there was something to make me stop thinking about food and eating junk. By the way, when I go with intuitive eating, I have to make sure there is healthy food to eat, otherwise, I would intuitively live on pbj and junk cereal. Melissa

Thanks for the insight, Carrie. Maybe that has been my problem lately. Food journals used to work for me, but lately, I have been thinking about food a LOT, and I keep beating myself up if I don't eat exactly what I "planned" for in my journal . . .

Perhaps I will try it too . . .

I guess that my experience is a little backwards. Out of keeping a journal, I have learned to eat intuitively. I find myself actually reaching for the better food items over the bad ones, not so that I feel guilty about writing the bad ones vs the good ones, but because that's what I have started wanting.

It's whatever works for you, though!
