I spent almost $800 on switchplates this week!

Well, outlet covers too. :p Damn those things are pricey!

I haven't bought a new purse since last June. I got one pair of new boots this season. I did get some new clothes, but only b/c I couldn't get my too-small pants past my a$$ anymore.

What happened to the old Laura? When did I become all about my house & not my wardrobe? Someone please tell me I'm not growing up!

OMG NO

Laura IS growing up. And it's quite scary!!!!:eek::eek:

But are they gold plated switchplates???? Woman, are you out of your mind??? Where are they all going??? Do you need bargain shopping tips too!!

Some are this really beautiful copper, some ceramic, some pewter. My house was a flip but, unlike what you see on HGTV, they used really low-end materials. All the plate covers were white plastic, about half of them cracked when I put them back on after re-painting.

So I'm trying to replace the low end stuff w/high end stuff. The devil's in the details, ya know. ;)

I'm getting a quote tomorrow for an aerobics floor in the basement. I'm super excited about that! :)

Switch plates do add up!

I had some custom plates made for my bedroom. I sent this guy I found on ebay pictures of my boxers. He custom made ceramic plates of each boxer. They are in the shape of my boxer's head and painted with the exact same markings. My boy plate has cropped ears, my girl is floppy ears. Just like my fur babes! They are really special.

$800 !?!??!?! Holy crap. I guess that's why I live in an apartment. How many did you buy? That's crazy expensive unless you bought 100 of them! sheesh

Hmmm I guess it was maybe 30-40? Some of them were pretty reasonable, but I did get some specialty plates that were $30-$40 each.

But I've been planning on doing this since I moved in. I did it in my last house too. I'll get the money back if I ever sell--believe me, homebuyers notice these little details.

What a great idea, Cynthia! I'm sure everytime you look at them you smile!

That's exactly how I felt the day DH and I spent at least twenty minutes picking out some boulders for our front yard. He kept asking my opinion and all I could think was "Have we really become so grown up that we are spending money on a bunch of rocks?"

Did you ever look here?

I used this site for our kitchen ones, I just wanted oil rubbed bronze (they look black :))

http://www.switchhits.com/

The problem is that there are SO MANY, argh.

But I had my plates in no time, individually wrapped with care (bonus!). And the site is very easy to use.

Ellie! That's where I got mine! :) Their service is really good. The orders were shipped the same day, & I needed some longer screws for a few of the outlet covers so they sent them immediately. Very responsive, & beautiful, high quality products.
