I need your suggestions on gym rules!

I have been working out at home for years and running in my neighborhood and on trails. My schedule now allows me to work out after classes at the school gym. I either spend time on the treadmill or eliptical or both.

The only trouble I'm having is that the gym rules demand no midriff-baring tops. I'm okay with that, it's all college kids there anyway and I completely understand they don't want to see my belly, even though at 28 it's better than it was at 18!!

But, I'm used to wearing bra tops (long and short) for working out and I swear the tee shirts I have for working out in are too big for me. (Why they only give out L and XL tees at races I will never understand!) It's also very hot at the gym.

What do you guys wear in this kind of situation? I feel like I'm back in high school trying to hide when I wear the leggings/pants/shorts with the huge tee shirt. Do you have any well-fitting workout tops you wear over bras??

Thanks so much for any ideas and suggestions!!!

There are a lot of close-fitting workout tank tops out there that are great. I'll see if I can find some links for you.

Thanks Nancy!! I was trying to find some, but wasn't sure if they would fit tight enough. (That sounds bad!!)

I have lots of nice, form-fitting workout tanks. I wore some of them on the road trip. You can find them most anywhere. I got two of mine at Costco!

Champion makes a "long bra top" (really a close-fitting tank top that's made of stretchy wicking fabric) that I like a lot. I know that Title IX and Road Runner Sports both sell them. I totally hear you about working out in big T-shirts; I hate that too!

I wear racerback sports bra with racerbacks.

Amyg- You can also find long tank bra styles at target.

Marie, thanks. That's one of the pics from the Alaska pics I posted last week when I got back from vacation.

I would wear a workout bra top (not the kind that actually look like bras, though) with a somewhat loose sleeveless T on top. When I workout in public (or at least, when I USED TO workout in public), I wasn't there to be seen, but to get in a good workout. The advantage of no bare midriffs is that when you lie down on a piece of equipment, you don't have to worry about direct contact between someone else's sweat and your skin.

Another solution would be a cute, cap-sleeved T, like the Cathe T. Though I don't personally like the idea of wearing an actual bra to workout in. They are just not as comfy as workout clothes.

A third option would be something like a waist-lenght workout cami or halter-neck top. Very form fitting, made completely of wicking material. Cute and somewhat revealing (though not of the midriff!). You say you already have some long bra tops. Won't they work?

I do have some long bra tops, which is what I've been wearing. It just gets so hot in there I sweat about twice as much as I usually do, which is quite a bit! So two layers would maybe be more discrete for public than just one. :D

I think I'll try a variety of these suggestions, since they are all great. It's weird to be back at a gym- the treadmills are in front of the windows, not mirrors, so I can't see if anyone is looking at me "funny" which I'm sure of course they aren't. :) I'm not that interesting!! But it's just a different environment, and they are mostly college athletes in there and I feel ancient with my wedding ring on at 28.

I'd never pay to belong to this gym- they have about 1,000 televisions and the loudest radio station playing all the time, so the peace and relaxation I used to get from running is on hold for now. But admission comes with my tuition, and this semester I have time to go twice a week after class, so I might as well!!

Thanks everyone!
