I need running shoes...HELP!

My aerobic shoes are not cutting it on my treadmill. I have been running on my *new* treadmill for 6 weeks now and loving the workout...HATING what it is doing to my toes! I am never in any pain or even discomfort but I am getting blood blisters underneath my toenails and THOSE hurt. One even took the nail completely off!

My DH switched to a running shoe tonight and he said it has made a gigantic difference. He said he will get me a pair for VDay (I Love it when I get workout stuff for "holidays"..no, really, I am serious).

What kind?

There are so many good running shoes out there that it's difficult to recommend just one for you. I have always used New Balance and Saucony and I love them. However, what's best for YOU may be completely different. I would highly recommend you go to a good athletic shoe store and have your foot measured before you buy any shoes. Have someone help you that knows how the different shoes fit. I will never again buy running shoes without doing that first. Unfortunately you've learned the hard way that good running shoes are very important! :(

That's so nice your DH will get you a pair for VDay! How sweet! Be sure to pick a pair you love! (oops, I made a pun)

If you live in a larger city there may be a store that specializes in running shoes. I know there is one in Kansas City. They analyze your foot strike when you run, like if you pronate or supinate...your arch type...then recommend a shoe for you. I'm sure it isn't cheap, but in the long run (no pun intended:D ) it might be worth it if you will be doing a lot of running.

Hi Ima!!!
I swear by new balance, but i run outdoors, i'm sure indoor on a treadmill is much different. My problem before the new balance was knee and shin splints.

It's hard to say which shoe would be right for you, but i can tell you for sure, if you've been running in your aerobic or walking shoes, that may be your problem. The foot lands differently when you run.

fitnessfreak, your toes are pushing to the front of your shoe or your shoes may be a tad too small. I had the same blood blister thing too. I run outside and never felt pain in the toes. I lost a toenail too and am waiting patiently for it to return. I bought new shoes, Nikes, and no more blisters. I had Nikes before with the blister but 1/2 size too small. Like the previous poster said I would get measured.

Good luck. :)
