I need pushup pointers

I posted this question in the "Ask Cathe" forum, but with the road trip and all, I'm sure Cathe is really busy.

Whenever I do pushups, I feel it too much in my shoulders and not enough in my chest. Consequently, I find them harder to do because my shoulders fatigue quickly. If I keep my hands wide and a little bit forward it helps, but I still feel it more in the shoulders than in the chest.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Carol F

It sounds as if you are bunching up your shoulders and holding them too tense. Try relaxing them a bit more and maintain good posture. Don't look down at your feet and keep your head as a natural extension of your spine.

I agree with Tammy you may be tensing your shoulders too much.

Another thing you can try if you got a big set of dumbbells(what Cathe follower doesn't?). But these need to have flat edges, so they don't roll. Use them as push-up bars, go into a normal push-up but insteand of being on flat palm, your gripping the weights, causing your whole arm to be in a straight line. Then go up and down like a normal push up. A lot of my clients find this takes the pressure off their wrist and shoulders.

Hope that helps,

Kit
