Find out how much the average aesthetician earns in your area. Do some diligent research. Don't do what I did- work at a very low-paying job, therefore prey to any (man) who could make enough to live on.
I finally got wise and became a dental hygienist. Now I have a wonderful, satisfying job (unexpected) and I earn enough to support a family (benevolently) on 4 days of work per week, AND I'm able to afford Cathe's videos. Also, I am able to pursue a second "career" moonlighting as a step instructor at my local YMCA (today the Y, tomorrow the world!)
So, don't hem yourself in without at least knowing what you're doing.
One of my classmates in dental hygiene school was an aesthetician who had her own business. She loved it and planned to keep it alongside of dental hygiene. I don't know if she did or not-- just a side note! Good luck in whatever career you create!
