Hi everyone, I need some advice. I am in school right now to become a surgical tech and get out in May. My dream is to become an aesthetician ( I'd like to work in the UK) I did surgical tech to support me well I go to school. My family thinks I am dumb for wanting to be an aesthetician and it is a worthless career with no money and that I shouldn't go back to school. What do you all Think?x(

Okay, I give up. What's an aesthetician?
But whatever it is, I agree with Sara. You should do it!! :) Don't waste decades of your life just to come to the realization that you should have done what you wanted to from the beginning. Knowing what you want is the hard part, and you've got that. So do it!

Find out how much the average aesthetician earns in your area. Do some diligent research. Don't do what I did- work at a very low-paying job, therefore prey to any (man) who could make enough to live on.

I finally got wise and became a dental hygienist. Now I have a wonderful, satisfying job (unexpected) and I earn enough to support a family (benevolently) on 4 days of work per week, AND I'm able to afford Cathe's videos. Also, I am able to pursue a second "career" moonlighting as a step instructor at my local YMCA (today the Y, tomorrow the world!)

So, don't hem yourself in without at least knowing what you're doing.

One of my classmates in dental hygiene school was an aesthetician who had her own business. She loved it and planned to keep it alongside of dental hygiene. I don't know if she did or not-- just a side note! Good luck in whatever career you create!

I agree with Sara. "Do what YOU want to do." Monday I resigned from a position that I liked with people that I loved, but for a company that I didn't respect or trust or held any future for me. My moment of enlightenment was a one page article in Shape about making a major life change. One of the signs that you're ready for a major change was 'you have an unfulfilled dream or a major life goal that you're no closer to reaching than you were a year or two ago.' The dream that I keep coming back to is becoming an elementary school teacher. It was a tough decision to leave my job. It was safe, paid the bills and was something I've done for 7 1/2 years. I'm scared to death. But I know if I don't pursue elementary ed, it will forever be in the back of my mind.

I wish you courage, clarity and confidence in all of your dreams. Keep my updated!!
