I need an opinion

I was wondering...when it comes to double strollers do you prefer the side by side or one in front of the other? I believe that I will need a double because my ds well still be 2 when the baby comes and I wanted to hear the pros an cons of each. Thanks

I prefer the one in front of the other model just because it's narrower and easier to maneuver in aisles, through doorways, in crowds, etc.

One thing I did a lot was put one baby in a baby bjorn/sling/back carrier and one in a single stroller or used the double stroller and used the empty seat to hold the diaper bag. (I had twins, but this would work with any baby/toddler also)

We have a double jogging stroller that's side-by-side, and a regular stroller that's 'in-line', and we love both. The in-line model is nice for the mall, but we do have fights about who gets to sit up front. :) The back seat is a little higher than the front, so the view is fine for both kids, and there's lots of storage room under the seats. My older two are 2 and 3 1/2, so they don't always want to ride. The stroller becomes the coat and baggage cart more than anything else! :) The stroller fits through all doorways and elevators, but can be a little hard to turn. It's also a little harder to manage sun/rain protection - the canopies are smaller and don't cover as much.

Our side-by-side has individual seat recline and canopies, so both kids don't have to be in the same position - a big sell point for us. It's very easy to steer, turns on a dime and practically pushes itself (very well balanced) Storage is pretty good for a jogging stroller and I can easily see both kids as well as pass snacks and drinks without stopping.

One thing that we did - we took the kids to the stores with us to test drive a few strollers (Baby's R Us, Burlington Baby Depot, etc.) and see what 'felt' best for us. I wanted to make sure I could steer the darn thing and that everything would fit comfortably. Have you tried any models out, or do you have anything in particular you are looking at?

My oldest DD was 2 when our second DD came along. I have a side by side jogger and a side by side mall stroller. Both worked well. My mall stroller is a Maclaren knock off, and the jogger is a Mountain Buggy. I agree with everyone else that second seat often becomes a bag and supply holder. I wind up taking the mountain buggy to the zoo, park, etc. rather than the 'mall' stroller. I still have a Peg Perego Pliko that I use more often that my mall double- the footboard in the back is very useful for anyone who wants a short ride.

I'm in the same ordeal. Hannah will be 1.5 when my baby is born. I need a double stroller too and I've gotten great feedback with the Graco system inline. At least for the first year because there won't be any fights who sits in front from the baby. Then you can move into the side by side. I was told Graco works the best because of how easy it is to manuever, take in and out of car, etc. I use the Graco 4 in 1 single now and LOVE it. Never had a problem. I have a friend that tried the Jeep Jogger double and the tires would flatten and it was hard to turn. Hope that helps;-)
