I know people are excited about spring, but come on....

The MINUTE the weather turns even somewhat warm (in the 50's), there are students at the university I teach at who will wear shorts and flip flops. Not as bad as last year, when the fad seemed to be pajama bottoms AND FUZZY SLIPPERS! That's taking "casual" to a new low!

Funny thing is, I can tell they never listen to the weather forcast. The other day, it was warmer in the morning, but dropped down into the high 30's by afternoon.

The mamas are just as bad. I went to the store, wal-mart. Same thing. Tea stupid shirts and here I am with a leather jacket on, zipped up.
I don't get it. But it will always be this way.

Some people just rebel about when winter comes and still be wearing shorts. Let the sun shine on Saturday, day light savings and they'll have on their dazzy dukes or what ever you call those azz hugging shorts.

The high school girls in my area still wear that to school. I mean do the girls take a shower and then put pj's on for school?? I just don't get that one.

I think it's great to see folks in summer stuff. Didn't you do that in college? All the HS kids are dressed in shorts and it's 50s. I think it's a wonderful sign of youth....

Before I read to the end of your post I thought "that sounds like the Short Hills mall". I swear!! Too funny.

Well, it's snowing like a you-know-what here.x( I don't think anyone will be wearing their shorts and flip-flops today. Stupid *#&*%&#% weather.

RE: I know people are excited about spring, but come on...

I had the heat on yesterday. It was 65 degrees in my house first thing in the morning! Brrrrr! You should have seen the look on my husbands face! }( I'm toughing it out this morning.

Shelley, it's going to be 85 today. My husband went to the pool across from our house yesterday. He actually went in the water, which is freezing and won't be warm enough for me until July. He sunbathes. I think he may have found a way to do that and transfer the wrinkles to me, wily son of a dog. But I digress. I have room for you, for Sophie. Get out your shorts and flip flops, a bathing suit and I'll roll out the red carpet for you, girl! Spring in the desert is mmmm, mmmm good!

My mother and sister, Jan, arrived from Michigan last night. Of course, they are staying with my "big" sister, Melody. ;( I have less seniority. Last year they did that thing that visitors often do. They brought cold, crappy weather. Of course, to them, it wasn't that bad, downright toasty compared to Michigan weather, but I didn't appreciate it at all. My mother in law does that too. She lives in Florida and she is like me in that we both seem unable to maintain our body temperature. Never fails that the temp drops when she shows up. You could have hooked up with my mother and sister, Michigan is due south of Ontario and that is just a little frightening to me. North of Michigan! I am cold just thinking about that. Remember, you have a place in the sun! People will compare summer here to winter there as if the misery factor is the same but it's malarky. My dad loved to joke that it was 110 in the shade and no shade and always used a, I think it was Rambo although I have never seen a Rambo film, happily, digression! A Rambo tag line to describe his desert rat, or brat, grandkids: What everybody else called Hell, they call home! Phooey! It IS a dry heat, unlike the humid days back East, unable to sweat into saturated air. Sweat evaporates here and if you carry around iced drinks and stick to the Malls and places where they try to recreate an Ontario winter, it's just propaganda to, either keep you guys from feeling too bad or to keep you from relocating. I am not sure which.

RE: I know people are excited about spring, but come on...

Wow, Bobbi, have you checked with the doctor to make sure your thyroid isn't sluggish or something? 65 makes me want to turn on the A/C, and 85 makes me miserable. Still, the southwest sounds kind of lovely. If we moved out there, would my DH be able to cycle all year round or at least more months of the year? That would be so great. Here, he is sedentary 6 mos. out of the year and I worry about him. I keep thinking we could sell our apartment at a shocking increase over what we bought it for and move to Colorado, where my DH's co's headquarters are. I would probably have no problem finding a law firm to join out there. I think about it from time to time. The biggest allure for me is the idea of owning a house with a work-out room. A room just dedicated to nothing but working out, with a treadmill and all my weight stuff. Now wouldn't it be lovely?

RE: I know people are excited about spring, but come on...

Oh, yes, that sounds lovely. I think Colorado is beautiful too. In a couple of years the first of my chicks gets pushed out of the nest and that room is mine! We do get year round cycling and running and walking. Of, course that means getting up very early in the summer but that suits me to a tee! And some folks workout in the heat of the day but I wouldn't do that. The sun is unrelenting here in the summer. My thyroid is fine. I have developed Desert Weenie Syndrome. When I first came out the days I consider cold now, saw me in shorts and short sleeves, delighted to be out of winter. You can always tell who's newly arrived that way. I love the heat. We average something like 350 days of sunshine a year and even in the monsoon, the rainy part of summer, it starts out sunny, storms in the afternoon, if we are lucky, and then moves out. In summer, it's go out early or in the late part of the day, stay hydrated, use sunblock and sport a hat if you are of a mind to. When I first came out, I wasn't sure I could love the desert but she grows on you. I missed shady lanes and huge oaks, the kind my mother loves and lives among. I have a beautiful tree out front, not as grand as an old oak tree but pretty darn good for Arizona. And Tucson is in a valley so we can head up Mt. Lemmon into cooler weather. It is recovering from the wildfires of a few years back. I will gladly live here forever!
