I just started--are all the DVDs so difficult to follow...

Hi everyone,

I finally got my Step at Dick's Sporting Goods! It came with a dvd called Basic Step + Cardio & Weights.

I checked Cathe's rotation for beginners and it says not to do Cardio and Weights until after Basic Step, Body Fusion, Low Impact Step and Total Body Scuplting.

Basic Step was easy to learn. I tried Cardio and weights and found it a bit frustrating--had to stop, rewind, play, stop, rewind, play... She would say, "ok, now do such and such". And I had no idea what she was talking about. I liked how Basic step kinda breaks everything down and then adds little by little.

What I'm wondering is, Does Body Fusion, Low Impact Step and Total Body Scupting teach most of the basic steps so that Cardio and Weights would be easier to follow?? Does she explain how to do certain steps better in other DVDs??

I'm sure I can get it eventually, just wanted to know if there was an easier order to do it in...:)

Thankyou for any advice!

Alison

You'll be fine. Much of this has to do w/simply learning Cathe's style & moves. Soon you'll be able to move on to more complex stuff.

Honestly, it took me about 2 years to get all the way through Rhythmic Step without throwing my step into my TV screen out of frustration. :p But now that I know it it's one of my favorite cardio workouts.

Stick with it & preview, preview, preview. If there are moves you have difficulty with run through the DVD in slow mo & practice. I promise it does get easier. Good luck! :)

I remember the first time I did body fusion,I thought I'd never get it down! Just like Laurmax says, practice makes perfect!

It definitely helps to become familiar with Cathe's moves and cuing through earlier workouts (like those on the "Classics" and "Cardio Hits" DVD's--in that order).

I started with Cathe way back around 1992, with Step in Motion III, so now I find her choreo pretty easy to follow after a preview, as long as her cuing is on time and she uses the same terms for the same move. But I still miss steps here and there.

Alison,
Hello.
Cathe's moves can be very difficult and frustrating. I previw and view workouts all the time especially ones I haven't done im a while, which is normal when you have alot of them.
Plus, after preview and view, you will learn her style of stepping and cuing and then it will become alot easier. I've been with Cathe for 16 months now but have always seen her in Collage for many years.
Hang in there!! You will love it when you get it!!

I agree with the PP's. Once you get used to Cathe's style, you will be fine. Also, the more workouts of hers you do, the more you will learn the names of the moves and how to do them. Also, she is the best "cuer" ever!!! I admit to being too attention deficit to allow myself to preview a new workout before I do it (but that really is the best way to learn) but even without previewing, the combination of famailiarity with Cathe and the way she cues makes it easy to follow.

Stick with her. You will love her (okay, sometimes you will call her names when she makes you do things, but you won't mean it). Cathe ALWAYS pushes me and inspires me. I work out in the very early mornings (between 0430 and 0500) and Cathe ALWAYS makes me smile.

Congratulations & Welcome to the wonderful world of Cathe!

I would definitely recommend doing Basic Step, then Body Fusion, the Low Impact Step, then move on to Intermediate workouts.

Eventually, like others said, you will get used to the moves and cueing, and do the workouts without much trouble.

RE: I just started--are all the DVDs so difficult to fo...

Thankyou so much everyone! I'm not going to give up! I suppose the complexity makes it more fun when I finally get it. If it were too easy, it would probably get boring!

Happy Stepping!:7

Alison

Hey, wouldn't it be cool if Cathe made a "bloopers dvd"?
