I was speaking to one of my husband's client's wife today and the topic of losing weight came up. She suggested that I check out Cathe. She has had great success with her Videos. Weight has always been a problem for me. Last October I gave birth to my 1st child and have not lost the weight. I need HELP. I have tried dieting for years and always roll up and down like a yo yo. I need a program that will work with my busy lifestyle (children/job/husband). Where do I get started and what is the best combination of videos for a beginner like me. I have several problem areas abs/hips/thighs/arms. I did step aerobics when I was in my 20's and it was very fun and it did work with dieting. I don't know how easy it will be for my 32 year old clumsy feet to do it again. But I need to do this for me. I am not happy with being fluffy and tired all the time. I need to keep up with my 10 mth old active child and my husband who has lost 30 pounds in the last 4 months. I need to feel like myself again. I was once 150 pds now I am close to 200 and feel like there is another person trapped inside of me. I have read several messages that have been posted here and know that someone out there has been where I am today. Please help me find the real me under all this extra baggage.

:) Denise

HI. I don't have an answer for you because I am right were you are. I am on this site looking for some answers too. I hope that we can go at this together. I love working out but have been out of it since my second child 4 years ago. I am up to 200 also but need to get doen to about 120ish (I am 4'11"). Hopefully some of those experienced stepers will help us!

Welcome aboard Denise!! You will find the support and answers to your questions here. There are a lot of educated women on this forum who are go willing to give their time to helping. You taken the first step by deciding now is the time to do something.

I am 44 and in the best shape of my life thanks to Cathe.

There are some good beginner workouts, in fact, three were just released, check out the homepage. I also believe they will be sold at Target along with the step.

I will leave advice as to where to start with weights to the more knowledgeable people. Kit, Kathryn, Carole, Pinky... to just name a few. I'm sure they'll see this and give you some guidance.

I, myself, follow a zigzag eating plan. Sarah (aka Imafitnessfreak) set this up for me. Hopefully she will see this and give you some guidance. I have seen remarkable results in term of body fat percentage loss with this way of eating. I am losing the fat and keeping the lean muscle mass.

Again, welcome. There is a lot of support here. We have daily checkin's for our w/o's, cleaning up our eating, challenges going on all the time, the next one coming up is the "no-sweets challenge" for August. Look for the check-in's and join in.

Look forward to "seeing" you on the forums!!!:) :)

Hi There Denise and Sarah!
Glad you've made the decision to take care of yourself and join us here! :) Like Jane said there is so much support here. We motivate, inspire, cheer and sometimes crack each other up!:7 This is an awesome forum with VERY knowledgeable people. The check ins and challenges really do make a difference as you will see once you join in!

Remember, what the mind can imagine, the body can create.

And the only stupid questions are the ones that are not asked.;-)

Look foraward to talking to you both!

Cathe has a few beginner workouts you could start with. Basic Step + Body Fusion is one dvd and then there is High Step Circuit. They are both for the beginner/intermediate exerciser.

Cathe has also just recorded a new set of workouts for beginners and intermediates but I am not sure when they will be released. You can preorder now. I would at least get the ones I mentioned above and get moving...

Your workouts should ALWAYS include doses of cardio, strength and stretching. Doesn't have to be all in one day. Many women leave out the strength training because they think they will get bulky but that is a myth. you have to do all three, I cannot stress that enough.

The final part is your diet. You have to eat quality foods to burn off the body fat. If you just cut calories to super low amounts, you will plateau and most likely gain it all back. You need to eat lean proteins, quality carbs and healthy fats (YES...FAT).

It's not easy but it is worth it!! Besides, once it becomes habit, it's fun!!!

I, too, am very short (4'11) so I know the impact of some extra pounds on a small frame. I was 160 pounds with both my kids!

Timesaver 5 Day Rotation and Cross Train Xpress are my favorites because they are under an hour - great for busy schedules! I would say the best thing to do is ANYTHING! Just get moving - even a 20 minute walk will help. & as has been mentioned before, eat "clean". At 57 my matabolism (sp?) has slowed down from my younger days, but it is still higher than "average" due to my working out. I have trouble keeping weight on & I eat a LOT. All I have to do is limit fats (only the good ones) & sugar (the August challenge has already been mentioned)& the weight just melts off - try it! Also eliminate EVERYTHING that contains high fructose corn syrup and/or partially hydroginated oil of any kind. Just eliminating these foods will put you on a fairly "clean" diet & help with weight loss. http://www.fitday.com/ is a free website that will help track your diet so you know if you are staying balanced. & we had a warning on a previous thread not to limit your calorie intake too much - your body goes into starvation mode & holds onto every calorie. The yoyo diet strategy has also already been mentioned on this thread to counteract the starvation mode thing. Good luck to both you newbies!! & welcome!!
