I just got PX90...what do I need?

I heard so many great things on this forum, I just caved and bought the system. Besides the pull up bar and dumbells, is there anything else I really need for this system? On the website it says some of the workouts call for a heart rate monitor. Do you use one? Anything else I absolutely must have while I'm waiting for it to arrive?

Thanks!

No, it sounds like you are all set! You don't need a heart rate monitor. They say you need one because they sell them. You will also notice at the end of every workout, Tony say "It's a great time for the recovery drink, I highly recommend it". You don't need that either...or the bands (that is, if you have the pull up bar or equivelant).

I tell everyone to use some sort of pull up bar instead of the bands because I think the muscle gain from modified pull ups is much greater than using the bands. Just my opinion!

Sounds like you are all set! Tell us how you like it!

Where did you get the pull up bar? I am doing P90X, started last week, I am doing the classic rotation, but I have been modifying with dumbells and the band. You look great! I don't want to get too big, I am doing biceps with 15 even though I have done as much as 25 when I did fitness made simple and my arms did not fit in my shirts.

I went to a place called "Play it Again Sports". While most of their stuff is used, they sell a ton of new stuff too!

Anyway, I bought a bar for about $15.00 new. It is not the fancy one that is on Beach Body website. Mine...I have a bar and a cap at each end. I had to drill the caps into the door way and the bar fits into the caps...much like a spring rod. You adjust the tension on the pull-up bar so that it is sturdy in the door frame and the caps keep it from sliding down on you. If I need to take the bar down, I just loosen the tension but the caps stay...they have been drilled in!

If you buy something that "installs", it is cheaper...I have the kind of house you can beat up! If you don't want to mess up your wood work or explain to company why you have a metal bar in your door way...I'd get the pricey version like the one at Beach Body.com.

I tried forever to find a deal on the ones like they have on Beachbody.com but had zero luck! If you go my route, check your local sporting goods store.

Thanks, Sarah! The program looks so intimidating, but I'm getting myself psyched for it. I will let you know how it goes...
