I just do NOT not not understand this!

I work out in a company gym that only has two full-time employees, a man and a woman. They are both in their.... late 30s or early 40s, say.

They work nowhere but the gym...

This means they are in the gym like what, 8 hours a day?

And this is a company gym, so there are a couple of peak times of usage (morning, lunch, post-work) but I am guessing the rest of the time it is pretty dead down there.

Ok, so now explain to me how it is that he is a 90-pound stick pole and she is overweight?????

If I worked in a gym, I would look like Arnold, I think!

Discuss. :7

Edited to add: this is not meant as an offense to anyone trying to lose weight. I just don't understand how you can be alone with all of the equipment one needs to be totally buff for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, and not look at least GOOD never mind fab like us. ;-)

With such awesome advantages to working with your company...there shouldn't be an ounce of excessive body fat in the whole place!!! To have a company gym is awesome! I hope most of the employees take advantage but in my heart feel every single employee should take advantage.

The employees may not have a clue how to use the equipment!

Sarah... I meant the "personal trainers" who work IN the gym... they do not look like personal trainers, if you know what I mean. They look like people who spend too much time at their computers reading email. }( }(

As for usage... I think there are about 1500 people on this campus and I will guess there are about 50 regulars in the gym... I agree most people don't know what to do when they get there, which is really too bad. Of course, if the people who worked there actually got off their butts to help, that might change things up a bit... :7

Cheers,
Marie

Is the guys name Jack Sprat? hahaha Your post is too funny!
I think you ought to ask her? I'd love to hear what she says. What her w/o routines are and diet. Diet??

LOL! I wonder the same thing myself. In my gym there are a few trainers who are stick thin, & there are a few others who look like the model for the Sta-Puf Marshmallow Man. I just don't get how they even make money. These people work on commission & personally if I'm spending $65 an hour I want a buff trainer who inspires me. If I had some chubby dude training me I would be like OK, so if I do what you tell me I'll look like you? Thanks but no thanks!

Some men have a hard time building up large amounts of muscle mass. I once dated a guy who lifted weights and lifted weights and lifted weights and ate a bazillion calories a day and tons of protein, but was always skinny. He tried and tried to put on muscle, but his metabolism just wouldn't have anything to do with it. So maybe 90-pound stick guy just can't gain muscle like Ahhhnold.

And as for the woman - maybe she does work out, but has a horrible diet and eats nothing but Cheetos and Hershey bars.

Or maybe, as you suspect, they just don't take advantage of the vast array of equipment that lays before them. And would rather slack off on their computers all day. ;)

You would think that... but it's actually harder than it seems to work in a gym. Granted, the gym I worked in was really busy (there weren't a lot of sit around on your butt moments) but by the time your shift is over, the last thing you want to do is stick around and work out.

I would try to come in before my shift and work out so I wouldn't back out at the end of the night. The cool thing about working in a gym is that you get a key and can use the facilities any time! I used to love having the whole gym to myself!!! It was a bit spooky when you would catch a bit of your own reflection in one of the mirrors though. :)

I do feel your pain on most of the people who work in gyms though. Who wants to work with a trainer who looks like they don't care about taking care of their own body? I mean no disrespect to anyone - I know we all have our own shape, etc. but there is no excuse not to take care of yourself if you've chosen fitness as a career, in my opinion. Granted, you don't have to be "ripped" but healthy would be nice. :)

i also think it's bad motivation to see a personal trainer who doesn't look the part. it would be one thing if you SAW these people trying to make gains but to see them just sitting there day after day, i know i wouldn't be very impressed.x(

I hear ya.

And guess what I saw at my YMCA today???? A woman going up from the first floor to the second to use the cardio machines, taking the elevator to get there!!! I almost felt like shouting after her "But I thought you wanted to get rid of that jiggle-butt?!?!"

I shake my head even as I sit here thinking about it.....

ABSOLUTELY! It is like trying to get hair or make-up done by someone that has make up liek a clown or hair that is awful.
