I just did something crazy

LauraMax

OK a little Xmas cash from the old dad.......I ordered a slew of body bars ranging from 9 lbs to 24 lbs. Now I can do some of Jari Love's workouts, but without reading through every single Cathe workout, what else can I buy? }(

I now have dumbells up to 10 lbs, a 10 lb, 14 lb & 20 lb med ball, 4 resistance bands, & the body bars are on their way. So are there any Cathe strength training workouts I can purchase?

oooh, that's not crazy, that's what I got for Christmas!! :7 :7 Seriously, I find body bars much easier on my joints and thus my lifting experience is much enhanced. I love knowing I'm not alone in my $$$-spending insanity. }(

Suggestions: Butts & Guts and the Gym Styles...

I just got Pure Strength (3 day split weight workouts on one DVD. Back, bicep and abs/ Chest, shoulders and triceps/ Legs and abs) and did back, bicep and abs today. It is a great workout. It is an older one but they work your muscles well. I used heavy weight and got a great work out. I also just got Slow and Heavy.. looks good as well and will try it next week. Love Muscle max as well.

Have fun shopping.

Laura:

From other posts I've read from you, you like to lift heavy at they gym (?)

If that is the case, do you want to have more endurance based workout stuff to do on days that you don't go to the gym or do you want to be able to do some heavier lifting things at home as well?

Finally, new workout clothes are ALWAYS fun to buy if you need something else to spend your $ on.

Yep, I do 3 heavy weight training workouts each week at the gym. But Drill Max got me hooked, so now I've added one circuit training day & naturally after doing Drill Max every Saturday for the last 3 months I'm ready for some new stuff.

Unfortunately those recommendations aren't gonna work for me b/c they all require a barbell. But I'm gonna try some of Jari Love's stuff so at least I can have some variety for my Saturday circuit training. :)

Um, Laura, didn't you just say you bought a bunch of body bars? Why can't you use one of those as a barbell? The set I got is pretty heavy and they work great.

Also, you could always sub dumbbells for most barbell work.

BTW, if it's a circuit you're looking for, High Step Challenge is a lot of fun.

Marie, the heaviest bodybar is 24 lbs. I don't think it's heavy enough to sub for the barbells in Cathe's workouts, but if it is please correct me so I can spend more money! }(

P.S. I ordered High Step Challenge. My name is Laura and I have a problem. Besides a shopping problem. I was trying to remember when my last rest day was & I couldn't. It was at least 3 weeks ago.

Well, I think you have to remember that a lot of Cathe's weight workouts are endurance-based, so even if you're using a "paltry" (HAH!) 24 or 28 pounds, you can still get a great workout...

PS: I have that sickness, too. :)

Oh Laura, looky what I found :D

Oh hey, I'll rest for you. I LOVE rest days:p :7

What about buying a weighted vest to go along w/ your body bars?

In most of Cathe's endurance based workouts, you could use the vest and the body bars to get where you need to be as far as challenging weights.

Then, I think you would be able to sub in dumbbells for the rest of the stuff. She doesn't really go too heavy on the circuit workouts as far as poundage.

PS.. It is FUN spending your $$!!! :)

PPS.. Step, Pump and Jump might be a fun one to add.. the cardio isn't too challenging but the weight workouts ( esp. lower) is pretty good. And the ab workout is REALLY good in this one.

Laura,

Can't you just use 2 body bars at a time when doing squats and static lunges and those other moves where Cathe goes over 24 lbs? I have grabbed a 9 and 15 lb together when doing walking lunges in our kickbox class (18 is as heavy as they go there) and haven't had a problem. The fact that they are cushy helps on the shoulders.

I envy you....my daughter bought me 1 body bar for Christmas. It is going to take her a decade to get me all the sizes I want.

Have fun with all your new toys!

Hey Laura -

You sound like me, in the last 2 weeks I've ordered 4 new Cathe DVDs, Powerstrike 1 & 2, and not to mention the already... um, lets just say probably 50 workouts I already have... however, I do not belong to a gym so I workout at home everyday-like you I have problem taking rest days but I force myself to take 1 night/week off, typically in the middle of the week, I would NEVER take a weekend off, that is when I get my BEST workouts done!

Like you I LOVE Drill Max- just to let you know, I always sub hand weights for the barbell when doing any Cathe workout. I just put one on each shoulder & go. So, if you wanted 30-which I believe is what she uses a lot, just get 2 15lbs. hand weights, works great but not so much great on the wallet as you can now purchase ANY of her workouts! Gym Style legs is one I'm stalking the UPS man for right now-can't wait to do that one. The UPS guy knows my address by heart, I always have some new workout on the way! That is what keeps me motivated.

:)

Laura,

Thanks for sharing your fun with us! I have now learned about Body Bars! :) I've been having a love/hate relationship with my new barbell set. The Body Bars will be so much better I think. Plus a couple of new dumbells, Cathe workouts... Oh my!

Thanks! :)

Well duh, why didn't I think of that? :+ I got them yesterday but the 24 lb is on backorder.

OK so I guess slowly but surely I'll start adding Cathe's strength training workouts to my collection. Michelle, thanks so much for the link to the incredibly expensive heavier bodybars. I'd seen them & I plan on adding them to my collection eventually.

I just need to make sure I have enough money to eat this month. ;-)
